I think the last time I felt the way I feel now was 18 months ago when I picked up my MDX!!!
UPS just delivered the last piece for my new computer!!! Guess what I am doing this weekend? :D
Maybe I should upgrade my signature line to list this PC along with the car :D All the posts I'll make!!! Can't wait....
Although I've been around computers for the last 15 years, this will actually be the first time I will have built one completely from scratch!
Before I list all the bells and wistles it will have, I have a question - any experience with DVD+RW's? Have any of you ever tried to play them in regular dvd-players? I know that MS endorsed +RW over -R. Companies like Sony (except for beta of course ), HP and MS cannot be wrong! :D
OK, here are the components. I tried to be as concervative as possible, after all, computers depreciate even faster than Ford vehicles... :(
P4 2.26 533 FSB 512KB cache $240
Gigabyte motherboard GA-8IHXP I850E chipset with all the goodies! (conidered the best board for this chipset by Tom's hardware) $160
Rambus RDRAM 4 x 256 MB TRUE PC1066 by Kingston @ $133 each
ATI Radeon 8500DV AGP card for video editing and stuff $225
SB Audigy MP3 (I know, I know - why this when MB already has sound!?!? - well, can I have some pleasure in this life????) $80
2 x Maxtor 80 GB 7200 RPM Ultra ATA/133 drives @ $90 each
16x-40x DVD drive $ 35
??? DVD-burner ???
Logitech k/b and wireless optical mouse $70
Enclosure - Antec 1080 Plus with 430W true power - the best on the market!!! :D (and heavy! - had it delivered to my office and then ... carried it home :( - at least MDX has wheels :D) $130
Will use my Sony 17" for now, but will probably get a flat-screen by the end of the year.
Will also use my Altec true-surround Dolby 5.1 for now. Then, maybe Bose ala MDX touring? Although, I hear Bose in MDX sux :D
Will start it off with Win 2K pro for now, but will need 2K A/S for work (will go on the 2nd or maybe 3rd drive) - I had to justify it to my wife somehow and get my company to pay for most of it :D
Then, upgrade to XP service pack 10 :)
If any of you were counting, the total is around $1,600 without a dvd burner (another $350+)
Can't wait for tomorrow to start!! |

Trust me, I have.
I just want a "second opinion" - I learned to trust this forum a lot |
