| I need to turn to my MDX brethren for some assistance. I ordered a hid conversion kit from SPP by Xenontechnologies earlier in the week and I just received it today. All seem to be pretty simple to install except for just one plug which I have no idea where it goes. I'm attaching a few images and the instructions that came with it to see if anyone on this board could help me. Any assistance from anyone is appreciated. I'm desperate and frustrated. I tried to call SPP but they seem to be pretty busy at the moment so I'm waiting for them to return my call. In the meantime, I'm sure most people here would be more familiar with our 'X' than they would. Thanks in advance!:( |

| Here are the instructions: Note that the plug that I've been referring to is the "Switch wire" which is supposed to plug into something that actually controls the on/off function of the lights. However, this is where I can't find where the plug goes. It does not fit on the current light power supply source. |

First of all....the folks that sold you this kit doesnt know what the F*CK they are doing...Looking back at your picture...Here is what you need to do.
1)on the right ballast where you have that LONG ASS black cable....disconnect it.
2) look at your left...notice there is a black and red adapter cable that should interface with your HID wires that will be off the base of your HID bulb (Whichshould be red and black) ok....you want to make that setup the SAME as the right ballasts. At the end of that big ass black cable..there is a set connected to it...take the red and black cable assembly and connected to where the big ass black cable is to the ballast.
3)Once you have that set up...throw away that long black cable..you dont need it.
4) Now find out where you want to place the ballast. (Recommend closest to the base of the bulb as possible)
5)then connect the red with the red wire and connect the black with the black wire and connect the black cable to the cable where the original halogen bulb used to be connected.
THAT should do the trick. If you are having problem...e-mail me and I will help you further... |

It looks like that connector will go to ONE of the previous connectors that was going to one of your old bulbs.
It does not matter which one, use the closest or most convenient.
I guess you don't need 2 of those, it's getting switched with the relay. So it only needs a voltage from one 'old' socket, since they both get the same voltage anyway when you turn on your lights.
Other HID systems without relays, use individual sockets, one for each side.
Drawing is bad, they should show you the full hook-up.
I think you are right Fireblade, he has too many cables hooked up. |

Fireblade,
Thanks for your help!!! However, I guess my pictures of the wires are kind of messy because your instructions about certain adaptors do not exist in for the right ballast. Here is what I mean and I hope this is better than my previous pic. I'll shoot some close ups if you need it. Thanks!!! |

| The one 'you don't know where it goes' has to go the one of original bulb connectors, how else will you turn the lights on? |

DaleB and Fireblade,
Thanks for your help. DaleB, in your post above regarding the adapter where I didn't know where it goes, well it doesn't fit in the OEM harness. I know my pictures weren't the best but through trial and error and a little homemade wiring remedies, I finally finished the install yesterday night. It looks fantastic. I've included a few after pics for your view pleasure. Thanks again to the both of you. |

I WAS going to be a wise-a$$ and ask if you had consumed the contents of that case of Corona that is at the top right of your first pic before you attempted installation:D
Two questions for you:
1) Are you running HID's in your foglights?
and
2) What made you decide on the particular brand of kit you chose? The kit at www.hidkits.com for $475 that was reviewed on this site is a LOT easier to install...:2:
Nice pics! |

The kit I got from SPP had a different set of wires, someone posted pix in the group buys forum, and was very easy to install.
Basically, you removed the OEM bulb, replace it with the HID bulb/adapter, plug it into the balast (they look the same as in the earlier pix), and plug the balast into the OEM power harness that was originally connected to the OEM bulbs.
I was going to post pictures of my install but had problems reducing the images to 100K. Eventually, I will get around to it. |

Believe it or not, I had about 2 Corona's before I was able to figure out where everything goes. Go figure. :1:
Everything looked easy enough but when I got down to it, it took more than the "under 1 hour" SPP said it would take. I'm not knocking the product because I'm happy with it but it was not as easy as it looks.
To answer your questions:
1) My fogs are not running HIDs. They're Nokya's 9006 Xenon Blues. Got them on Ebay for $18. I have to say they're the closest HID looking bulbs I've seen or used. Not the brightest but definitely a match for my true xenons.
2) If I would have known, I might have looked for an easier install kit. However, I'm happy with the results. I've heard numerous times how happy people were with SPP and their support which was important to me. The kit itself was also discussed in detail on one of the threads regarding Xenontechnologies (the company who made my kit). I've seen that SPP had offered another kit which is a 4300K with Phillips Ballasts and bulb for $540 but I've heard that they're a bright white in color but has a slight yellow tint to them. That was not what I was looking for. I've done some research but on this but not to great extent. Xenontechnologies' bulb was supposed to have a more blueish white color but I really can't tell. It looks just plain white which is what I liked anyway. It was almost a "wait and see" attitude I took. I guess you really have to try the kit first before I could really form an opinion on it.
BTW thanks for the complement. |
