| I purchased a pair of Acura side steps through my local dealer. The parts department matched the $432 price from Honda/Acura World. I had the side steps powder coated locally in gloss black to match my 2002 black MDX. The side steps need to be sand-blasted first and the power coat applied to the bare aluminum. Some guys may try to powder coat over the existing paint, but that will not last as long. The two plastic end caps and the two plastic steps need to be removed ( 2 screws each) before power coating. I also used a gloss black can of spray paint to paint the plastic end caps and the plastic steps ( attaches to the top of side step). Maybe that's a bit of over kill, but the gloss black side steps and the gloss black plastic attachments looks great!:) |

You're not the fisrt person to powder coat your steps - there are 3 of us here who have done it before - You are the first to have powder coated them black tho'.
Enjoy.

... chrome/silver.
You are correct that they need to be cleaned first; however they need not be sandblasted - they can be chemically stripped as mine were. |
