This being my first post off-topic, I'd like to ask for people's opinion on Mitsubishi Lancer ES (base model with automatic). It's for my mom. I test-drove it last weekend and was pleasantly surprised:
a) Made in Japan
b) All standard
c) Good visibility, high roof - I'm 6'3", and felt comfortable driving it.
d) A little noisy having only 120 hps, but surprisingly quick and great fuel economy
e) Although new to US, proven platform in Japan
f) I had a dream I get OZ with the stick (BRIGHT YELLOW ONE) - it was AWESOME!!! :2:
g) Insurance on this puppy is lower than for 2001 Toyota Corolla! |

I don't think its in the same league as the new corolla or the civic, BUT, they look cool. I doubt your mom cares about HP, in that case 120 should be plenty. I'm sure its cheaper than the corolla, but i would try to get a civic instead.
just my 2 cents.
ohh, i do like those 17 inch OZ's:D |

Yes, all the performance/reliability/people trust it crap just skips past mom's ears... after 15 min. 'pep-talk' she says 'I love the PT Cruiser - it looks cool!' (well, my mom's hip!) ;)
I love PT Cruiser too, but not for ~20k it pulls...
Back to Lancer, what makes it more appealing than Corolla or Civic is it's origin and all standard equipment (AC/CD/power everything), but will probably look at Civic as well, thanks! :) |

actually cars like the Lancer, Ford Focus, subaru WRX and the Peugeot 209 are all drive and borned from a VERY EXCITING event called WRC(World Rally Championships)
At the World Rally Championships is where these cars are engineer like Formula One where the Hondas/Acura, Jag, Ferrari etc are born.
If you are into Rally Racing....Lancer is a household name similar to Focus, WRX and 209.
I LOVE THESE CARS...VERY EURO like and have an established heritage.
I don't think comparing the Lancer to the corolla and civic is a good comparison. |

Why not? Civic is also very popular among street racers, does it make it less desirable for general public? I am not looking at an image, but at what the package offers. For roughly $14000 with Lancer I get all the convenience features that are only available as options on Corolla or Civic.
I also added Mazda Protege to my research, and so far eliminated Corolla and Civic as similarly equipped, they run at almost 2 grand more... Anyone has experience with Protege? |

Ummmm, last time i checked the Lancer is basically a refreshed mitsu mirage. U can talk about WRC all u want, but the lancer sold in U.S. is definetly not a WRC rally car. Its basically, a civic/corolla fighter with a rally "heritage". I agree, the Lancer EVO is in a different league, but the lancer is basically a garden variety econobox. a good one, but not in the same league as the new civic, and definetly not the same league as the new corolla(a lot of mags refer to the new corolla as the benckmark for refinement, quality, power, room in the econobox class). |

the 330xi costs $40k+ the lancer costs 14k+ - IMHO, I don't think anybody thinking of buying a bimmer would consider a lancer or viceversa. |
