think that the rear deflector looks very good, I just could not justfy the cost of what amounts to no more that a small piece of plastic:confused: |

| Functionally, it will help keep your rear window cleaner. I agree rvehock that it's a lot of money for a piece of plastic. If you decide to go with it, you'll likely get the best price from Tim at hondacuraworld.com. It's a pretty simple self install. |

I was thinking of getting one for my SS just to help with keeping the window cleaner, but on other threads I have read that is it not such a sure thing that it reallydoes that at all. So, I'm sitting on the decision for now . If you do go ahead, I second the motion to go with Tim, you won't do better. |

It's really a pretty big piece of plastic, and comes with some screws and stuff. :)
I live up a 1/2 mile dirt road, the deflector actually does blow the dust off at least the upper half of the window.
(and, yea it does look OK, particularly on the SS/tour/nav model... :) )
-check out the Ghost's SS link below, there's some pictures of the TD and install at the end of the thread. |

I installed one that I bought from Tim. Very simple install.
As far as functionality is concerned, I can not really see any difference between pre and post installation with respect to the dirt on the back window. I do, however, think that it provides a finished look to the tailgate. I also think it looks good when matched up with the carrier and mudflaps of the same black finish.
Most of all, however, I bought it 'cause my wife told me to! |

Like Ghost I have seen what it does after running on the dirt roads. The only dirt road I go on is a slow speed in and out, 3/4 mile total, where the dust just settles on the rear end. After a regular speed run you can actually see a clean area the width of the spoiler on the rear glass. I also believe it helps in the rain. I don't find myself using the rear wiper all that much.

I liked the way the rear deflector looked in black and I love the way it looks in silver, color matched to the rest of the car/accessories.
I feel the 'X looks incomplete without the accessories ... so I had to have them :D . See my sig below for pictures.
The deflector was installed by the dealer so I can't give any before/after comparisons. If it helps to keep dirt off the back window then that is an added bonus!! :2: |

| for a piece of plastic with the price range of $297 is not worth it, I rather spend that money on something else like taking my family to a nice dinner, movies, amusement parks etc. just my opinion |

Of all the posts for the inquirer of the rear deflector for the MDX. NO one mentioned to him that it not only is it a plastic part but the installation is actually tricky.
You see, you are REQUIRED to drill holes into your MDX, unless you have a good drill and dexterity and knack to drill holes and also do sanding work and such...then dont get the deflector and DO IT YOURSELF.
But seriously though, if you get the painted deflector from Tim at HondaAcura world, they look so elegant and nice on the MDX. I love mine. As to whether it helps aeridynamically to push the rear on the pavement at high speeds..I doubt it... This only applies to sophisticated wind tails or rear wings for sports car. As to whether it keeps the dust off the back window...I tend to agree with that. But much more importantly...it is a cosmetic accessories. |

Sorry to dissagree, but it really is about as simple as it gets. Spots for holes are clearly marked, so long as you use a hole punch before drilling, you cant miss. Then its simply a matter of filing the holes, a little touchup paint, some Zaino and tighten the bolts. Took me less than one hour, and 50 minutes of that was waiting for the touchup paint to fully dry. |

I got it from Tim a few months after I got the X. Researched and debated a lot about its usefulness and worthiness, finally decided to get a color-matched one after the wife saw some pictures here and she likes it - a lot.
The real value of the TG deflector is we like the X a lot more after we installed it, to us that is worth the money. |

It looks GREAT...less "wagon-ish"...new MDX appearance with it.
AND....it DOES help in the rain and the snow.

Maik is right, drilling the holes is a bit unnerving, but not particularly difficult.
Also, I have personal experience that since I have had the TD on, I've never had the rear end leave the pavement. In fact, I think it's faster now.
And don't think of it as $271, in reality it's 0.68% the cost of the car, or roughly 1/10 of what you paid in sales tax.
Did I mention how good it looks? :) |

IMHO...I think the rear deflector is more for looks then anything else.
You probably won't get much downforce with it and if you do, you'd probably have to go 150mph to realize the benefits.
If it keeps the rear window cleaner, I'd rather buy a lifetime supply of RainX for $200 to keep the window cleaner.
The main reason to get the rear deflector is if you like the way it looks on the MDX.
Just my $0.02. :25: |

| I love the way it looks, even black on redrock, but I just can't justify the $300 to add the looks at this point! I would seriously think about it if the three bill included painting to match my X! |

It is all a matter of personal opinion as to how the vehicle looks with or without it. Personally I think it looks like crap and serves no purpose and takes away the overall smooth look of the vehicle.
At the base price the vehicle comes fairly well equipped and looks great. The only extras I ordered were the Navigation - and I am very glad I did - and body side molding. I ordered rear mud flaps, cargo net, cargo cover and fender flares (painted the same color as my MDX - GG - as the standard color of the flares is a bad match) - all from Tim at Hondacuraworld.
I won't bring up the waste of money for the Touring package because all of those that have it will furiously defend their decision. I mentioned it once and I got a slew of criticisms, which I enjoy. One guy said he'd pay the $2600 just for the automatic passenger seat for his wife, which I found bizarre to say the least. Wonder if he bought one for her lounge chair in the house. Dang, I brought it up again. |

Just wondering if the fender flares serves more of a purpose than the rear deflector? Doesn't that take out the "smoothness" also? |

Huck, while I am in agreement with some of what you have said, I'm still not going to help you whitewash your fence! :D However, while I do think the features in the touring package are very overpriced, especially since the Bose system upgrade is not all that wonderful. However, I do like the in dash functionality of the cd changer, and my wife loves the power passenger seat....but even more so, we both adore the memory seats for the driver and the outside mirrors. For years we have, mostly without a big adieu, made these adjustments. Now, having the memory seats, we are totally spoiled! Love em, maybe out of my mind, but I'd almost pay the full $2600 for just that! Okay, a bit sick, a bit steep, but IMHO, they are great!:2: (shame the touring didn't also include BSM's!) |

The shipping was a bit slow, I suspect it was a UPS issue however, since I received a note on shipping and tracking no. (next day after payment).
The packaging was excellent.
The mounting hardware was included.
The paint quality was excellent.
As stated in an older thread. The only difference is the delfector is made of fiberglass instead of rubber.
Also, as his name indicates, he sells various trim accesories for various vehicles including the MDX. He has Burlwood and carbon trim as well. |

Any updates or feedback re: the ebay seller or his painted rear deflectors ? Seems like a great deal if everything is legit . . . his latest auction is asking $245 as min bid . . . |

| Yes, it does look better. It is weird to see the guard in the front but not in the back. I also believe it help to keep dirt out of the bottom of the rear bumper. |

Hey Mdxxxx,
Did you get charged an add'l fee by UPS for shipping the deflector ? I did not see a disclosure for hidden shipping fees on the ebay auction ?!?
Also, did you find that the mounting holes in the deflector lined up with the premarked holes on the hatch for the factory deflector ??? |

No additional fees, the shipping fee was a flat $20.
No, the holes do not line up with the premarked holes on the hatch. The factory deflector is slightly smaller.
Overall I'm pleased with the deflector.
BTW, due to a mixup with my wife (she decided to surprise me) she also bought a deflector from the same gentleman. I now have an extra tailgate deflector. As soon as I get time, I'll sell/auction it. |

Just installed the tail gate deflector this past Tues. It was very easy to install, however I did skip one step, I didn't paint the part where I drilled with touch up paint, as I didn't have any. I just used the Klasse wax to wax the aread and the hole itself, do you think it will rust?
BTW, the deflector is so easy to install. Surprisingly the MDX is very easy to drill through. Took about 30 min. to install. |

I like mine.
Yours must look great, black on black.
Only pain is drying that area under the deflector, to remove water spots.

| Yeah, got lucky, the black deflector matches the car perfectly. All cosmetics, no real usefulnes as many would say. But hey it looks good. |

| I would have to agree that it is all for looks. I went driving through a field and the deflector didn't help keeping dirt off the glass. I figured driving home at high speed might help blow the dirt off, but it didn't. Ended up using that California Duster to get it off. |
|
|
| kishino |
| I remember reading somewhere that for a rear spoiler to be effective you have to be going about 150mph to actually start with the downforce. |

It is easy to drill through, but don't make a habit of it!
(don't sweat the paint deal, it'll be fine) |
