Does anyone know of any good paved or dirt (relatively smooth and reasonably wide) biking trails in SF Bay Area for biking with small kids in a bike trailer?
We have been using Iron Horse trail in the East Bay that runs between Walnut Creek - Danville - San Ramon. We would like to explore similar trails in other parts of SF Bay Area. It would be nice if these trails had some picnic / rest facilities available to stop for a break. Ideally, this would also be close to the ocean.
Any info is appreciated. |

| Samuel P. Taylor State Park in west Marin. It is an old rail line, part paved, part gravel, but limited grade change. It is nestled in the Redwoods along a beautiful creek, a winnner for sure!:29: |

Didn't limit it to South or North, so: Los Gatos Creek trail. Start in Campbell by Hwy 17 and Winchester, and head south until you get to Vasona (about 6 mi. one way). Beautiful, flat paved mult-use trail. You'll see ducks, geese, dogs, people running/blading/walking/riding and nice scenery. It does have water stops and Vasona Park (restrooms, picnic facilities) is great for the kids.

| Anderson Resevoir in South San Jose has some great trails around the water. Nice trails for kids as well as biking enthusiasts. And the hardcore rider can can get lost in the surrounding hills off of Metcalf Rd. until the sun sets or they are totally exhausted. |

I found a web site that describes some relatively flat trails in SF Bay Area that may work for us:
http://mtb.live.com/mtb-sfbay.html#flat-rides
I also found a book at REI - "Easy Biking in Northern California". It details 100 easy bike trails that are geared toward family biking.
I will cross-reference your recommendations with the trails described in the book and on the web site, and will make a decision on which way we will go this weekend. |

I just revised the link in the above post to point directly to "Flat Rides" section. Here is the link to the home page for that site:
