Finally, here are a few pics of my install. The pics are not great. I need a digital camera badly. I am not am expert installer nor, do I claim to be. Hope you like and let me know what you think.
First pic....This is our 2001 MDX. |

| Start off with the Eclipse 7002. Sorry about the flash in the pic. |

| images come from the ps2. it is tucked under the driver's seat in the back. you can not even see it from outside. |
|
|
| slackass |
| the power comes from 2 amps. this is an MTX 6304 powering the image speakers with about 100 watts a side. |
|
|
| slackass |
| this amp is a MTX 6500d. juicing the sub with 600 watts into a 2 ohm load. |
|
|
| slackass |
| left set of image chameleons. i made the aluminum tring ring myself on a cnc machine. almost the exact shape of the stock speaker... |
|
|
| slackass |
| right set of chameleons. the crossovers are hidden down under the center console... |
|
|
| slackass |
| last pic. this is a Kicker L7 10" sub. pounds like mad. i am going to make a new box and try to blend it in with the side panel to look somewhat stock.... |
|
|
| slackass |
| the only pic i do not have is the eclipse changer under the front driver's seat. let me know what everyone thinks. |

| Your setup is really impressive. Are you sure your not a expert? Very modest of you. I have a 5 year old MTX sub, never gave me any problems. I can see your dome light from the reflection off your chrome amps. Consider replacing the domes lights with piaa bulbs because they take the stock yellow color out and are brighter. Have you considered using some beige cloth for your sub enclosure to match your interior? That is all. Thanks for the pics. |
|
|
| slackass |
| thanks for the words manus. i will check into those bulbs. as for the cloth, that is exactly my plan. i want to build something that will tuck in the area in front of the factory sub. i think using factory carpet and maybe getting a Kicker square grill and painting it the same color would be nice. |

Wow:eek: Very impressive!! Did you do the trim around the Eclipse yourself? Very nice job on the speaker install. Certainly a great replacement for stock.
Do you find it a hassle to carry the PS2 into the car each time you need to use it?
Electronics Boutique is having a special $50 rebate on the XBox if you get an S controller and an extra game. I am tempted to just leave the PS2 in the car and get the XBox for home:D My wife hasn't said no to the idea yet (I've just hinted a bit.) |

MDXtrous...thanks for the comments. the trim around the radio is the only thing I did not do myself. I had a local shop cut it out for me. I was in a hurry and just did not have time to put it on a CNC machine. I am going to make a new one at some point out of wood or fiberglass and really try to have it match the stock look. I already have the shape programmed in to cut on the machine. Just have to get the machine free. Dang work keeps getting in the way of fun.
The speaker rings I am especially proud of. I thought they turned out great. I saved that program in my computer so I could make them again for any speaker I choose. At some point, I will move the 5 1/4 chameleons to the back doors and buy the 6 1/2 chameleons and put them in the front. Just to add a little more midbass.
As for the PS2, we use it so little that it really is no big deal. It takes about 2 minutes to hook it up or take it out. We have only used it on 2 or 3 occasions. I have thought about getting a DVD player and leaving it in. The Blaupunkt unit is now around $150.
Thanks again. |

Would a 6 1/2 require a trim ring? I was just thinking since so many people are upgrading to 6 1/2 you could sell these, for example, for the Infinity 652is, which at least 7 or 8 people have done.
Just a thought...
As to the portable DVD player, check out this thread about a $99 Koss portable DVD player at Target:

I am not sure if the 6 1/2 would require a ring or not. I just like using the rings because, I do not have to drill any holes in the MDX. The trim rings mount to the factory holes and the speakers mount to the trim rings.
I could actually make the rings for about any speaker. The only difference is the bolt circle diameter and the diameter of the speaker cutout. Problem is, they are not cheap to make. If I charged my actual time in the set I made, they would have cost me over $100. I could make another pair cheaper but, it would still be $75-$100. If there was a big call for them, I could cut costs on quantities though.
I must say, that Koss sounds very interesting. That thing would fit in the cubbby hole, in front of the gear shift. |

Now I'm inspired....always like the Eclispe stuff....just haven't bought any for a while....looks sweet.
I will be needing to build a custom face for my DIN Headunit install....I was thinking about purchasing replacment parts for all of the trim and where there is wood grain....then have it all painted silver (to match the exterior color) and have the area around the headunit painted similarly....no need to match wood grains or black textured surfaces....then I could replace it all to stock if needed....any idea how to have something like this finished? What does a CNC machine do?
BTW, great work....love the install |

KaCee,

I absolutely love what they did with the MDX in that post. Moving the trip computer is awesome. I am not ready to tackle that just yet but, I would love to give it a try.
CNC just stands for Computer Numerical Control. It is basically a milling machine that is completely computer controlled. I can draw a shape using a cad program on my computer and then convert it to code the machine understands and it cuts out that shape. That is how I made the rings for the image speakers and trim panel for the radio. Not the one shown but, I have another.
As for finishes, you could use aluminum and polish it to a fine shine. There are also many power coating and plating processes that could work as well. Only limited by your imagination. I like the idea of matching your exterior. Mine is mahagony so, that would be a little tough to do. |

| If you notice on the bottom left of the screen pics, there are some streaks on the screen. I had to send the unit back to Eclipse to get it fixed and it is now on its way back to me. Will be 2 weeks total time since I sent it. Not bad for sending all the way to Cali from Oklahoma. Can not wait to get it back on Wednesday. |

Do you know if those scratches are easy to fix. My installer accidentally put two on mine (Navi screen), and I'm scheduled to fix it when I bring it in Sept. for the new sound solution. |

| I am not sure. I would almost bet that they had to replace the screen. If it was not under warranty, there is no telling how much it might have cost. I will know more when I get it back on Wednesday. I will let you know. |

| I got my Eclipse 7002 back yesterday and reinstalled it last night. It looks better than ever. I am not sure what they had to do to fix the scratches but, they are gone. They also put a plastic sheet over the screen. Looks like one of the screen protectors you put on hand helds. I will try and get some good pics soon of the screen so you can see the difference in the fixed screen. It took about 2 weeks total time. I may have to take a short trip this weekend just to get to watch a movie of play a game, hehe. |

| Hey, awesome install you got there! Now, could you tell me exactly how you got that TV in there like that? I am just amazed. Is there anythig custom to make the TV fit in there? Well, how does it screw in there with the trip computer? Well Cool Setup. Please let me know. Thanks. |
|
|
| slackass |
| Thanks for the kind words, MDX212z. The screen is just a simple single din unit. I removed the factory radio and bolted the Eclipse to the factory bracket. Bolts right in with 4 screws. A double din unit would fit as well. I had the trim ring made at a local shop. Cost me less than $100. I plan on making another trim ring to make it fit even better. |

:6: Very impressive, slackass!
Do you have more or updated pics? |
|

| mdxxxx.....Thanks alot. I appreciate it. I do not have an current pics because right now, nothing is finished. It has gone thru alot of changes since those pics. The front speakers have been changed. The MTX amps are gone. The Kicker sub is gone. As soon as I get it presentable again, I will repost pics. Thanks. |
