I was wondering if I should follow some particular known process for storing an MDX in the garage for couple of months. It would be in the Washington State area where the MDX might sit for 2 to 3 month without use.
Much Obliged. |

If it were me, I would fill the gas tank and put 7 or 8 ounces of Sta-Bil in the tank, then drive the car for maybe 10 miles to mix the Sta-Bil thoroughly with the gas and get it all through the system. (Sta-Bil keeps the gas from going sour or gelling as it ages.)
I would also put the vehicle on blocks -- or jack stands -- to get the weight off the tires. Make sure all fluids are at their proper levels.
Find your radio code, just to make sure you have it, and mark down all of your station presets. Then disconnect the negative (-) wires from the battery (2 black wires on one connector; one is only a few inches long, and goes directly to the body in front of the battery). Wedge or tie them out of the way so they can't touch the (-) terminal of the battery.
That ought to ensure that, when you've gotten the car off the blocks or stands, and have reconnected the battery, it will start and run like a charm. All you'll have to do then is to enter your radio code and reset your pushbuttons, as well as set your clock. It may run a little rough for a few miles as the engine computer re-learns how you drive, but within 10 miles or so it ought to be as good as ever.
That's about all I can think of at the moment (it's about 8:30 am as I type this, and "Mr. Thinker" isn't used to being utilized this early!) |
