I noticed some superfine swirl marks, primarily on the hood of my black MDX. They look like very fine scratches, somewhat cloudy, as opposed to the spiderwebbing/swirl you sometimes get from waxing on a dark car. I can try and take some pics tomorrow when it's sunny, but am not sure if they'll come out on a camera.
I am guessing that the dopes @ the dealer used a dirty rag when they waxed my car before delivery.
Suggestions? I'm thinking Dawn on the hood to remove everything, and a re-wax, and haven't a clue which kind to use or whether there's something in between I ought to do to get rid of them.
The dealer is nowhere near where I live, so a return trip isn't feasible.

I too bought a new Black Navi, Tour MDX that came with some fine swirl marks. Before I took possesion of the MDX
I pointed out the scratches and was told that they would be taken care of at no cost too me. They sent me too a paint and body shop that they use and set me up with a rental car at know cost. They had it for one day and it came back looking like a million bucks. If I were you I would first contact the dealer and see if they could set you up with someone in your area to buff out these swirls. If not look for a good reputable paint/body shop to buff it out for you. I wouldn't try it yourself unless you are experienced at it. Good Luck! |

| I have had black cars before, and yes what a pain to keep looking good. I use Meguiras or Zymol carnuba, and a small craftsmen orbital buffer once a month, this works well. If you let it go to long, you will need to use a good cleaner wax first, and then a carnuba. Somwetimes it can take a few coats to get them out. Lot's of work!!!:4: |

Wow - over 3 yrs old. I've learned a lot about detailing since then :D
I used 3M scratch and swirl remover for this particular instance. The pics w/before and after are in this thread.
I'm still using that product most of the time with a PorterCable. Also using 3M Machine Polish, 3M Machine Glaze, and most recently (for severe scratches) 3M Trizact...all courtesy of Tommy Leon as demo/test samples.
The 3M Trizact did an unbelievable job of removing some severe scratches that MrsWorm didn't cause by not pulling into a planter box. :rolleyes:
Unfortunately, I don't have b4/after pics of that one. |
