Roof Rack fit to Yakima - Click HERE for Original Thread

Does anyone know if Yakima has make a connection to the factory roof rack system on the MDX. I have a lot invested in Yakima components and I am concerned that without sliding rails on the MDX that we may have limited usability of the Yakima products. I believe that this will also be an issue for all of the other rack and component manufactures. Does anyone have any experience yet...ski season is almost upon us!
I hope Yakima gets the mounts for the MDX produced ssson. I have a ski trip to Utah planned for x-mas and need to haul six paris of skis
i talked to yakima. they are working on it and asked me
to check back after the first of next year
i'm not certain on yakima products, but the acura ski rack and exterior bike attachment i believe are manufactured by thule. the bike attachment says thule on the wheel tie down. the OEM ski rack is pretty straightforward--used it this past weekend to go from SF to lake tahoe.

in a real pinch, you can get the ski attachment pretty cheap online--check out http://www.ahmotor.com

Yakima has a universal track system that I am thinking about getting. It looks like that is the best option for me. I already have a bunch of yakima accessories that I don't want to waste.
I will be placing my order for my MDX this weekend and have decided to get the base with the navagation system. The Acura roof rack doesn't look to be all that usefull.

Wish me luck.

Have any of you tried the Yakima Mighty Mounts? I have them on my Honda Passport and was hoping to transfer them to my MDX when it comes in. If you're not familiar with them, the Might Mounts are brackets that attach Yak racks to pre-installed roof racks.
You wont be able to use the passport mightymounts on MDX (sorry to break this to you...)
The factory racks are different for the MDX and needs special mightymounts unit. I had called
yakima back in november - they are working on it ... asked me to check back beginning of next year...
I just spoke with the technical staff at Yakima regarding the "fit" to the MDX factory rack. They said that have not been able to locate an MDX for them to work with. He said they go off the lot at their local (No. CA) dealer so fast that they have not even been able to look at the fit issue. He said that they are getting lots of calls for the MDX so it is a priority for them..but they need a vehicle to work with. You can call them at 1-888-925-0703 and further register your support for them rushing this "fit".

Also if any of the readers in No.CA (707 area code) would want to generously drive by their office so they could take some measurements....

what?!!! this sounds like a bunch of crap to me... why do they need to have a car for a month to get measurements?!!! It's just a friggin' clamp that they have to design, not a rocket! whatever happened to getting data sheets and engineering drawings from Honda Motor company?!! Also, almost all dealers have test drive vehicles all the time... Just looks like there is a big liar answering calls at yakima office...They know that we have invested so much in yakima equippment, we can take any crap for these attachments...

The Yakima web site lists a Mike Chatfield as a "master fit enginner" so I just put a call into him to keep the pressure on. 1-888-925-0703...

I agree on the investment front..I most have $2K in Yakima stuff!
I just dropped off my MDX at the dealer's service department today and saw another MDX with a Yakima cargo box attached to MDX factory roof racks. The cargo box was clamped on with a U shaped clamp that fit the racks well. I too have been waiting for Yakima or Thule to come up with a fit for the MDX factory rack. Looks like I may just go to a Yakima dealer and see what they come up with instead of waiting for the Yakima engineers to design something specific.
yakima equippment owners:
get ready for this - talked to yakima rep today, guess what - yakima is NOT going to make mightymounts to fit the MDX factory rack!!! #$*&#^$#$^#$&!@!@*$*#@!@!!!!
so we have the following options:
a) install the yakima crossbars, in which case what do you do with the MDX roofracks?!!!
b) throw away yakima equippment and start buying thule racks!!!

i would suggest someone else to call 1-888-925 0703 to confirm this - maybe I got some "pissed-off rep" who just lied to me to get me off his back...

Like all of you, I have invested about 2K into Yakima components. I've visited the web site and called them. Their standard response is "we have not had a chance to get our hands on a MDX to measure, make mock-ups, fit, etc.". They said they have been getting a lot of calls for the MDX, but don't know when they will have a modification ready. I hope they get something out in the next 90 days. I'm going to Moab, UT and need to haul 4 mtn. bike. They did suggest a trailer mount bike carrier, but I feel it blows for long trips. You can't get into the back, bikes get scratched, more potentail for theft, and what about if you are rear-ended. My suggestion:

1. Keep calling them to demand they make the adaptors, etc.

2. Mention that Thule is almost ready (not true, but....)

I just took my MDX over to REI here in Virginia and the roof rack guy and I tried to find a Mighty Mount that would work with the factory MDX rack. We could not find one that was wide enough. So his only suggestion was to wait for Yakima to get the fit done. I then spoke to Yakima and they indicated that they are still "working on it". Which really means they are still trying to get ahold of a vehicle for testing etc. The guy suggested that I call back every "week or so".

Let's keep the pressure on...my $3,000 of Yakima investment is gathering dust...
Here is the latest on Yakima fits for the MDX. A Q clip is in the works, and should be out this Summer. The factory rack may not get in the way, but I don't know for certain.

MightyMounts are still out of the picture. Sounds like the cost of producing a custom clip may out pace demand, but again I'm not certain that this is the reason.

The LoadWarrior is a confirmed fit right out of the box. It's a big basket, and the front and rear frame members are the same size as the Yakima cross bars, so Yakima bike, ski and boat mounts will fit right on to it.
need clarification on the loadwarriors - do they fit the MDX factory racks
right out of the box, without any mightymounts???
