| I've had my MDX for almost 5 months (Apr. 9) and I only have 1600miles on it. (I was gone on vacation for 5 weeks). Should I get my oil change soon or should I wait until I have over 3000miles on the car. If I wait, it will probably take me another 1 1/2 months to put an additional 1500miles on, so I will be slightly over 6 months by the time i get to the 3grand mark. So what should I do? Thanks |

Did the vehicle just sit unused for long periods of time? Or was it used for a day or two and then left for the rest of the week?
If it mostly sat for long periods of time I would feel OK with waiting another month or so. |

Before I left for vacation, the MDX would be used about 2 times a week. After coming back from the 5 week vacation, the MDX is now being used about 4 times a week with mixed city and highway driving. The last 2 weeks, I put about 450-500 miles on. I roughly avg 50miles/day when I do drive it. So I figure 6 weeks, I could probably put about 1500 additional miles. That would bring me over 3000miles in about 6months. So should I wait until the 6months and approx 3000 miles or should I get the oil change done now since I'm already close to 5months but only have 1600miles so far.
Thanks for the input. |

| i thought the first change was supposed to be at 7500 miles due to some special additives in the first batch of oil ? |

| i have read something similar after going through some of the postings...but if that is to be my first oil change, it would take me about a year to hit 7500miles..and i don't think that would be the best idea to change oil once a year.... |

| According to the manual the first oil change is due at 7,500 miles OR SIX MONTHS whichever comes first for normal (not severe driving, see manual). I had my first oil change on my 2001 MDX at the six month interval with 5,600 miles on the clock. |

Hey guys, don't forget that oil changes are at 7,500 OR 6 mos., whichever OCCURS FIRST.
Change your oil at least EVERY 6 MOS. for warranty issues if for no other reason.
Toyota with its "bad 3.0 liter engine" [the one that sludges up] STILL CLAIMS that this is "customer abuse" caused by customers failing to change oil as required. I have a neighbor with a sludged 3.0L who has his routine svc done at Jiffy Lube. Toyota DEMANDED maintenance receipts which they were provided. Then Toyota acutally said "those don't count, do you actually watch the oil changes being made, how do you know they REALLY changed the oil".
So heed the above well. Follow maintenace guidelines. I understand that Honda isn't much better [maybe no better] on this type of thing. If you question this, look at the "trans issue" recently raised. There is obviously a problem [don't know how big], but some of us who keep the Xs a while are gonna be buying rebuilt transmissions because of the known problems!! Worse yet, the one they put in may [probably will] not look anywhere as sweet as the one they take out!! [and I didn't make that up -- I got it right here on the forum] |
