...but then so must that of MANY, MANY others because none of those vehicles are selling particularly well.
And make no mistake, I do think that reason they aren't selling tremendously well is PRIMARILY becuase they have not resonanted with a large number of buyers.
I remember when GM's two-door RWD vehicles ruled the roads, MonteCarlo's, Cutlasses, GranPrix, Regals ALL were in great abundance going back from 1970-1987. Quite a run. In fact, Ford repositioned the T-bird & Cougar to fit with these, and Chrylser pitted the Cordorba & variants in this same segment!
Same can be said for full-sixe & midsize wagons.
DItto for the "pony cars" -- Camaro, Firebird, Mustang.
NOW there is only one segment dominated by American makes -- full size P/Us. Ugh!
What happened? Have the bosses at US auto makers really gotten so out of touch?
It makes me kinda sad for the workers in industries that I'm sure have been displaced, but I suppose they are at least partially to blame for the competiveness that they gave away due to poor quality & high costs...
I wonder if we will ever see an passenger auto segment that the domestics will create or "win back"?? |

| renov8r, LOL, yeah, the ol' Cordoba, "deh nyoo esmall Kryslehr" as Ricardo Montalban entoned, remember the hulabaloo over what exactly was "fine Corinthian leather"?? And keeping the Euro comparisons, remember the Ford Granada TV campaign which showed repeated pictures of both it and a Mercedes...."Granada.....Mercedes....Granada....Mercedes" and we were supposed to somehow believe that they were not only comparable but identical. |

Ok, I'll give you the fact that the Vibe, PT Cruiser, and Trailblazer aren't going down on anyone's all-time greatest list except for the wacko that wrote that article. But c'mon now...the Corvette? Not sure? And for that matter, the T-Bird? Those are two very great marquees in the history of American automobiles. The Corvette has made it 50 years!

OK, Vibe sales suck. But the Corvette is and has been the best selling two seater for some time. For such an impractical vehicle, the fact that they can sell around 30,000 units a year is amazing vs. the 40,000 Acura can move of the do it all much more practical MDX.

The poll specifically asked if the NEW versions of the Corvette and Thunderbird would one day be considered All-Time Greats. I'll grant the NEW Corvette has a slight chance, but in my opinion the NEW Thunderbird does not. By definition an All-Time Great list must be kept small.
Earlier Corvettes and Thunderbirds; absolutely:1: |

You mean there were words too? I just saw the pictures.
The new C5 Corvette made a huge splash in 1997. Not too sure if it was bigger than the splash the 1984 Corvette made when it came out. But the latest Corvette is finally on par in terms of performance, reliability, refinement, and fit & finish of other world class sports cars and still for 10's of thousands less in cost.
But I'll agree that the new "retro" T-bird (even though they are still selling for well over window) probably won't waste too much ink in the history books.
