Hi everyone,
I've had my video equipment for a while now and had it only temporarily installed because I was undecided as to where to install the monitor I had and whether or not I wanted to purchase additional monitors. Also most local places wanted 150.00 and up to simply place my monitor in the headrest and leave the wiring to me. That seemed too much to cut the leather and push the monitor in, and I didn't want to expirement myself. So the other day I ran across an interesting monitor stand at Fry's electronics. It attaches to the two posts of the headrest and no cutting is required. The stand/brackets were easy to install and cost 40.00 bucks. The brackets are cheap plastic so they are a bit overpriced but they are supposed to be universal and are a good alternative to permanent installs especially for any people leasing.
Anyways here are some pics:)

Looks pretty good gokings. How do you like that Blaupunt DVD player? Does it play all yours DVD's? How is the picture? I have been thinking about getting one of those to leave in my vehicle, as opposed to taking the PS2 in and out.

I just saw another version where you remove one of the rear passenger grab bar and replace it with a long bar maybe 3 feet and you can attach a monitor as well and the new bar you install acts like the new grab bar. BTW I saw it in Crutchfield.

Gokings55,

Looks like a nice setup. I have a dvd/video system that I got a Fry's which I bunge cord to the console when we go on long trips. It has a 6.4" screen and has 2 inputs (I usually hook up my son's Nintendo 64 or Game Cube to it).

I've been thinking of getting an additional screen. Did you get your screen from Fry's? Is it the 5" size screen? Looks like the one that Fry's had on sale at one time for $90-100.

Thanks for the replies, so far:)
The Bluapunkt DVD has been very reliable and plays movies very nicely. No problems with skipping or not reading from the DVD's I have used. I'll post some more pics later with a movie playing on the monitor. And yes I purchased the screen at Fry's, it's a mobile authority 5". It came bundled with the player for 299. Now you can get the same combo for 288 on sale everyother week at Fry's. All told my little system cost 380.00 300 for the screen and player, 40 for the Fm mod and 40 for the bracket. Serves its purpose really well and I would recommend both the player and screen.

I'm currently installing a ZVision Z 2002BT into my MDX. I too want the screen to be versatile !

Couple of questions to those that have fitted themselves :

a) How did you get to the back of the factory radio to install the antenna sets? I have removed the glovebox but this doesn't offer much help.

b) Where did you mount the DVD player ? The logical place is under the drivers seat if the Nav. system is fitted, but which way did you point the player, ie towards driver or passenger ?

Thanks in advance

Nigel,
I faced the dvd so that the tray pops out towards the firewall which allows me to change dvd's while driving. As for accessing the radio it's really easy. Disassemble the ashtray(coinholder) and lighter assembly, then you will be able to reach in behind the fake wood trim surrounding the radio and push it out. This is a very brief explanation but check out this thread for a more detailed explanation, whatever you do don't try to pry off the wood trim with a screwdriver, it's possible but there is a very high risk of damage to the dash

Thanks for that. That's exactly what I did :)
About an hour tomorrow to finish the install...off for a beer now ;)

gokings55,

I am considering this exact mount. It appears in your photo that the arm from the headrest posts to the monitor is resting on the top of the seat. Can this not support the weight of your monitor directly behind the headrest?

I would prefer to keep the monitor out of my line of sight in my rear view mirror as much as possible.

Thanks for your help.

That's a nice and easy mount. I saw the mount at Fry's and picked it up. But not for mounting monitor. I am actually using it in my WRX to mount videocam for track days. It is pretty damn sturdy, considering what it's mounting to isn't all that sturdy to begin with. It is definitely strong enough to support the weight of monitor (consider it supports the weight of my videocam).

Even though I installed a ceiling-mount flip down screen, it kinda blocks the rear view mirror. I've been thinking about getting 2 screens for the back of the headrests using this mount. One of these days...
