Good job on that review Dale. It was done 3 months ago, would you change anything if you did the review now?

I agree with almost everything you articulated in your review, the one exception is your statement that the touring package is overpriced. I know many on this board share your opinion, however, IMHO it is worth the extra $2600. Without a few of the features of the touring package I would not have even considered the MDX.

Hi DaleB:

___How dare you rate the reliability of your X a 5.0! Everyone knows that an MDX from San Jose is practically guaranteed to have a transmission failure before 20,000 miles! I heard it from an Acura insider myself ;)

___BaldEagle, I have to ask … is it the power passenger seat and mirror tilt down feature that make the Touring worth $2065.00 more than the Premium? The roof rack is $115.00, the Touring vs. Premium rims are a wash as far as cost are concerned but we all know the Touring looks better, the Michelin X-Terrain’s over the GoodYear Integrity’s are an ~ $250.00 upgrade, Bose upgrade is not an upgrade, and the 6 disc CD-Changer is worth at most $200.00 or thereabouts. It’s the excess profit that drives me batty even thinking about it! It’s as if Acura were going to charge $5500.00 for the leather interior or maybe $3200.00 for the Sunroof … It just doesn’t make any sense to me is all? Not that it’s a bad choice as I would like to have all of these options but not for the $2600.00 is all.

___Good Luck

I am glad I got the Touring, but still question it's dollar value. Especially in terms of wheels with a slightly different styling, Michelin tires which probably add
$250 to the price for all 4 RETAIL...
and the Bose, no comment....
The power passenger seat, memory seat, and tilt down mirror... that's the heart of the 'improvements' but hardly worth more than $2000. But I am glad I got them, just think it a bit of a rip.

I know this has been discussed previously, but here we go again. My preference is for the Base MDX with Navigation. It meets our needs perfectly. My thinking on the options available in the Touring package is as follows:

Michelin tires - not a big deal, Goodyears are not bad and will be upgraded when they wear out.
Different style wheels - I prefer the look of the base model wheels, touring wheels look too much like those on older Jeep Grand Cherokees.
8-way power pass seat - useless to me, you set it once and forget it.
Remote linked seat memory - nice feature which should have been standard, but not absolutely essential.
Pass mirror down-link in reverse - same as remote linked seat memory.
In-dash 6 disk CD changer - nice feature, but mostly listen to radio, I would only use it when going on long trips (which isn't very often), the rest of the time my CDs are stored in a CD juke box at home.
Bose system upgrade - not a significant enough difference (aside from 6-disk in-dash changer) to justify additional expense.
Roof Rack - factory roof rack is useless for my purposes, planned on installing Yakima rack to gain flexibility and to support my existing Yakima attachments.

To summarize, the only items in the Touring package that would have been marginally useful in our situation were memory seats and mirrors, and possibly 6-disk in-dash cd changer. In my mind, these items were not worth the extra $2,600. I chose to spend this money on Navigation (love it!) and on some aditional accessories (see signature).

for me, the memory seats alone are worth 2k as my wife and I share it and have much different settings

Hard to put a dollar value on it; heck I paid MSRP for the car:rolleyes: The "value" of the Touring package has been discussed many times (if anyone wants to use Search ...).
I'll restate what I've said before: I would NOT want the MDX without it! Therefore in that respect it is worth the money.

Whats up with the MDX? I never knew Acura got into the bus making business. The MDX looks like a bus with the 3 row seating. I test drove one last week and the poor sales guy tried to weasel his way around the rattle in the read seats saying it just need an adjustment. I thought there was a rattle snake occupying the 3 row. I did not see that on the specifications list posted to the window of the bus.

Kind of reminded me of the episode of the Brady Bunch where Greg Brady was trying to sell jalopy.

I'm not impressed with the MDX. Acura has gone downhill with the RL and MDX.

I surf and go away when the waves drop and return when there breaking once again. You folks at this website got your underwear on to tight or you are wearing your mother panties.

All I'm simply saying is although the MDX is rated a decent bus, Acura's quality has deteriorated and the engineers need to work on ride/road noise quality, improve the interior both in appearance and choice of materials. To defend your MDX is saying its inferior.

Hi Soul Surfer:

___Not owning an MDX just yet, I have driven both the 02 RX 300 Compact w/ the bus like turning radius and the 02 MDX SUV. The X simply has too much going for it over the RX 300 Compact and that is why I decided on the X rather than your own personal Compact choice. I wish the X was made by Lexus for the interior appointments and smoother and quieter ride but it’s not so I will take the slightly degraded ride quality and receive a much larger, more useful, and more rugged family automobile. Your RX 300 Compact is a great automobile as anyone will attest but in my family of 5, the RX 300 Compact falls considerably short of the goal for both utility and practicality.

___In any case, good luck with your RX 300 Compact but please don’t try to defend your decision here because it doesn’t hold up. I do highly recommend that you join the Edmunds Town Hall and peruse their Lexus RX 300 groups as well as hit the Lexus newsgroup at alt.autos.lexus. You will find more than enough company over there to bask in your own sunshine so as to not bother anyone here with your drivel.

___Finally, have you ever heard of the term Troll? Tag, your it ;)

___Good Luck
