Last month (8/17) I posted a problem regarding static reception on my 2001 MDX in Northern New Jersey. I am pleased to report that, on the third try, the dealer (Montclair Acura, Luis Zuluaga) has fixed the problem totally, and the reception is PERFECT! They told me there was a loose connection between wires leading to the radio, and the workorder states "RR Rear headliner and unplugged and plug all wires for radio and antenna". Thanks to all of you for your ideas! When I brought the car in this last time, I had printed out the thread of answers I got and that seemed to get their attention! To all others with reception problems: DON'T JUST ACCEPT IT! There is clearly a defect in the way some of the MDXs were put together, and it can be fixed! Good luck!:2:

Good news! :)

I don't know off-hand how easy that is to access but maybe it's worth checking the connections up there. Can it be done with out dropping the entire headliner?

I don't have a 'real' problem, but the reception always seems it could be somewhat better.

DaleB:

From p. 22-167 of the '01 owner's manual, titled "Antenna Mast Replacement":

1. Carefully pull the rear of the headliner down to access the antenna mounting nut (A) and antenna lead (B).

2. Disconnect the antenna lead and connector (C).

3. Remove the mounting nut, then remove the antenna mount (D).

So, it looks like it's pretty easy to get to. Probably just unplugging the connectors (one for the antenna and one for the amp which is built into the antenna base) and replugging them would help, but spritzing them with a little Cramolin contact cleaner before replugging would be even better.

Thanks for the info! I was too lazy to drag out the manual.

OK I'll let you bail me out of that one. Hey, frostyra, do you Zaino your MDX? Just wondering if that cat goes into a slide on your hood or roof....

Hey arauch

I'm also getting that static in my redio reception in Northern NJ. I always thought they were dead spots because at times they sounded ok. I guess I should talk to this guy at Montclair because that's where I used to bring our integra. Thanks for the tip! :)
