I won't repeat the details of the article other than their subheading which was "Sedan perfection unclouded by emotion". Car and Driver October Honda Accord
And the fact that the tested 0-60 time was 7.0 seconds (WITH the 5 speed automatic). The irony is that in the same issue, the Waiting for a Bimmer Beater article, comparing "near-luxury sports sedans" showed all 6 competitors of that test with SLOWER 0-60 times (and all with 5 speed auto's - except for the CVT equipped Audi A4). This comparo included the:Infiniti G35, the Mercedes-Benz C320, the VW Passat W-8, the Acura 3.2TL Type-S, the Audi A4 3.0 CVT, and the BMW 330i (for the record, that 0-60 will also beat the 5 speed IS300 at 7.1  )
(To the moderators, I attempted to find a thread that discussed the 2003 Accord but could not find one that had not been hijacked by senseless bickering. So I authorize you, nay I implore you, to consolidate and edit this thread and the others discussing the 2003 Accord into one thread. There now, that's not so bad is it?) |

Hey all,
Unfortunately, Honda/Acura has again made a big mistake with it's brakes. Accord had over 205 ft from 70-0 test!!! That is worst than the MDX...worst than Lexus LX470! Granted, tires may make a difference, but come on! That is no where near the average of the class. In addition, the noise level is about the same as previous generation...which is average for class.
Otherwise, an excellent car...but those darn brakes are really annoying!
Thanks. |

I read that article and from the pictures I'm not sure I like the design of the rear end. But.....Pictures have fooled me before. I got an invitation from the local Honda dealer to attend a test drive session next week. I might have to go see for myself.:)

quote: Speaking of brakes, we were impressed with their linear, firm pedal feel, and they performed well on our handling loop, but we were disappointed to find that the larger rotors yielded a poorer stopping distance of 209 feet from 70 mph. Perhaps the tires are partly responsible for the six-foot degradation versus the '02 Accord.

It looks like a cross between a Acura CL and a Saab 9-3, IMO. Saw one live and liked it, despite the Civic-like front end. |
