Hello everyone,
I am new to the board...and in the process to buying an MDX.
Cant make a decision on 02 or waiting out for 03. I am looking for NAV/touring which wont be available til end of the year. What to do? is MSRP for 02 a good deal? Please advise ! |

Hi Dan,
I daresay most people will say that it's not worth it - you'd be getting a brand new vehicle, of course, but technically it's already a year "old."
On the other hand, it depends how desperate you are. If your car just died and you need something immediately, you might consider an '02. But at least try to negotiate a discount. Call around to multiple dealers in the area (check the dealer reviews on this site for help), and get them to compete for your business (if you got someone to say MSRP, call and tell someone else and see if they can beat it). You may not get anywhere, or you may get a small ($500-1000) discount.
If you've read thru the other threads, you've seen that people as recently as a month ago were still not finding below MSRP on '02s, and we still don't know what the '03 MSRP will be. So, another consideration is if the X is already at the top of your price range, in which case it again might be better to go with a known quantity.
If price and time aren't an issue, wait for an '03 - and find a dealer that doesn't have a mark-up or forced options. When all is said and done, an '03 at MSRP, even if the actual dollar amount is a bit more, is better than an '02 at MSRP, IMHO.
Anyway, welcome to the waiting list. My husband and I are "expecting" as well - we've decided on an '03 Touring, which we should be receiving in Dec/Jan.
Good luck with your decision,
Ioana.
PS - browse the site for this subject - I can think of at least one other thread that talks about '02 vs '03. |

| At this point MSRP is NOT a good deal. My local Dealer has suddenly become much more willing to make deals on the current models. With the advent of the Pilot and the slew of new SUV's that are coming out with 3rd row seats, the pricing policies on MDX's can only get better. I predict by the middle of next year MDX's will be selling for much less than they are now. I would definitely wait as long as you can before you make a purchase at this point. |
