My wife and I are considering buying a new second car. My wife really likes the volvo wagons. We test drove one over the weekend. They handle really well considering they are a wagon. The dealers are offering 6000 off MSRP for the 2.4 non turbo, and 7000 offf of the turbo version. We drove one with leather interior, integrated booster seats, third row seat, automatic and sunroof. We can buy it for 28,000. We drove the non-turbo and it seemed like it could really benefit from a turbo. But my I would like everyones opinion on the reliability of the turbo, If we keep it a long time would it be better to get the non-turbo to avoid costly repairs after the warranty wears out? For the price, it seems like a really nice car, the interior was super comfortable and nice looking. I would also appreciate hearing everyones experience with any volvo cars they have had. Thanks for all your input in advance:)

Funny... I have both cars you are looking at. I like both for different reasons. Each is holding up to wear and tear differently and each have their own quirks. I leased both vehicles, getting a much better rate on the Volvo. (as you are getting a much better price) The volvo gets 22-24 mpg vs 16 mpg in the mdx for the same type of driving.

I drove both the turbo and non-turbo and the turbo is better once you get on the highway, but for city driving and off-the-line performance the non-turbo is better, IMO. (no lag) Granted for $300 you can "chip" the turbo and make a huge 50-75hp difference.

I will/would NOT keep either vehicle after the warranty expires, repairs for both vehicles are astronomical and the upcoming services after warranty are expensive as well, plus I like to drive "new" vehicles. My mother had a 1987 Turbo Volvo Wagon and it cost her thousands in maintenance.

Ohh, I bought both only a few months apart and they both have ~11000 miles on them. I have done long distance road trips in both. The acura has more "space" than the volvo, however, when my son gets older the integrated child seats will be handy. The third row seat in the volvo is more for kids, while I've had two adults in the third row of the Acura without complaints.

If you want any more details, just ask, more than happy to answer.
