| When I picked up my 'X, they offered $1,200 for 7 years. I asked if I can still get it later on and they said yes but probably more expensive. I didnt take it. |

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this website. I was told by the dealer when I bought the last week is that the extended warranty that you bought after you purchased the vehicle will cover everything but the navigation system. I don't know if this is true or not.
Thanks, |

The dealer is lying to get you to purchase without shopping. You can my the Acuracare warranty up to 50k. Price goes up slightly at 24k, and 36k miles.
I paid $1100 for a 5/100k/zero deduct at 35970 miles. I put on a bit over 20k per year.
DO NOT talk to the sales depatment. Call the finance MANAGER and say "I'm shoping for a XYZ. What is your best price?"
If you act like a retail buyer, you'll get treated like it.

| I paid $1,595.00 for the Acura Care 7yr/100k no deductible extended warranty. Near as I can tell from reading it before I fall asleep midway through each time is that it covers everything except routine maintenance and ordinary wear and tear. According to the dealer it covers everything except what I noted. |

Thanks! Everyone.
The dealer offered the extended warranty 7yrs/100,000 for 2,200.00
which I declined. So glad, I didn't fall for that. I want to buy the extended warranty for my MDX. Any suggestion is appreciated. |

You have a new X? Then what's your hurry? Money burning a hole in your wallet?
Wait a couple of years and see how reliable your vehicle really is and watch it's track record.
You can always call finance managers at different dealers later and shop for a warranty. |

This topic resurfaces every so often....I am of DaleB's mindset, as my many posts on this topic have indicated.
The longer you wait, while it may be slightly more expensive, the more information you have as to YOUR X's reliability and X's in general.
In addition, you will be better able to estimate your actual miles for, let's say 7 years. In my case, if I bought upfront, I might be inclined to go with 7/100, just to be safe. Well, with my job situation changing and my spending way too many hours on a plane and not in my X, I now would opt for 7/70, at substantial savings.
Furthermore, what happens if there is a change of ownership? 1) My X is totaled. Will my insurance company pay for my depreciated value of the service contract? Nope. 2) I sell to a dealer in a trade. Think they will give me the correct depreciated value of my service contract? Maybe if they are an Acura dealer. But even then, they will knock down value of my car to make up for it. 3) I sell it privately. I MIGHT be able to convince the buyer to pay for it, but if he/she is savvy, they probably would ask me to "throw it in."
I am going to wait for year 3.5 and then shop around (we call it horsetradin' down heah in Texas) before making my decision.:1: |

I agree, and am taking the same approach. By mid/year-3 of my vehicle, I should have a pretty good idea of how it's doing, and how other MDX's are faring. After all, if things aren't going well by then or are at least questionable, that might make me more inclined to get it. If things are going really poorly, then one has the option of just getting rid of the vehicle. |

Buying the warranty after the purchase of the vehicle, $1750 or $1700 for the $0 deductable. If you buy warranty when negiotiating the purchase of the vehicle, I've heard $1200 or less depending how hard the hit you on the price of vehicle. PM me for any further details.
P.S.- The Zero deductable usually cost about $200-$225 higher |

No doubt some of us can negotiate very well at the time of purchase. I prefer to do so at my leisure, not under any pressure when I am buying the car. I can now shop around pricing from many, many dealers, all offering Acura certified warranties. I will avoid 3rd party service agreements.
Lessee, so far I am down to about $1000 on a 7/75 with zero deductable (btw only $150 more than $50 deductable).....from Acura, btw. And my X is over 1 year old.
Ahhh, the feeling of being in control.:2: |

Curious- why only 75k? Do you only do 10k per year?
BTW, there is another reason you might delay purchase: once you settle in to your 'automotive mix' you can see what your annual mileage will be.
I, ...er, my wife, clocks 20k a year. For me, a 5/100k was best. Had I purchased when I got the vehicle, I'd likely have done the 7 year (to play it safe).
FWIW:
Based on pricing in 2000, 2001 and 2002, I figured that the price increases with miles on the vehicle are offset by the fact that Acura gets the interest on your money if you buy it at mile 1.
I too saw around a 125-150 differential for the zero vs $50 deductable when I was negotiating.

| Ard, yep, I put my miles on American Airlines, not my X, unfortunately. Acurahondawarranties lists the $0 deductible for $175 as I recall, but I bet you can get them or whoever to sharpen their pencil. |
