WOW

How dare we complain about our little problems.

The 4wd just died?!? On its own? Not good. I wonder what it costs GM & Chyrslet to offer 3-4 different kinds of drive systems as opposed to just offering one system per vehicle. Seems like they'd have to spread around engineeering resources quite alot...

GM, Chrysler, and Studebaker all told me (in their own ways) that they weren't interested in having me as a customer anymore. This reinforces, rather nicely, the GM message.

BTW, it's good to see that someone else uses the AutoWeek site; always good info there.

Further proof that a Chevrolet is a mechanic's best friend :)

Hmm...our friend from SJ--any thoughts amigo?

Interesting. This would be a nice report to follow.

Not exactly the vehicle that would give me a warm and fuzzy if I jumped in and wanted to go cross-country. But there are a lot of Chevy/GM dealerships. Just be prepared to extend your vacation.
It's a shame too. It has all the right equipment to be a good long trip cruiser.

I know GMs aren't perfect in reliability. But a perfectly working Trailblazer over a perfectly working MDX, I'd go Chevy with that pick hands down.

Hi All:

___Given the engineering involved in a vehicle built today, what is wrong with this picture? Why is it that the largest automotive company in the world can’t create a vehicle for a completely reliable end user experience right off the showroom floor? I am very afraid for GM and Ford’s future as I have been for many many years. Its one thing to go pick up a $10,000 Cavalier w/ rebate applied vs. a Corolla at 50% more premium and expect a few glitches but it is a whole other matter for a vehicle that costs ~ the same as an X. Who is going to purchase a $30,000, $40,000, or even more costly GM product for a second or third time when they have troubles similar to what was listed in the Autoweek articles? Than again, I know plenty of disgruntled Honda Odyssey and Pilot owners looking for an alternative as well. Has the cost cutting gone so far as to make the latest and greatest from all companies less reliable than what we purchased just 5 – 10 years ago?

___On a similar note, I was following a new black Escalade this morning. The fit and finish of the body work around the rear window was simply appalling. The window did not match up with the top fascia in the top corners. The gaps from top to bottom were not even across the few body pieces the rear door was aligned with. I noticed this from maybe 15’ away so I am sure the owner knows of this when washing his vehicle …

___The MDX also has its glitches but lets all hope they are minor in comparison …

___Good Luck

Now, now Wayne! The fact you have the same concerns now that you had 15 years ago says something for consistency.
The more amazing thing to me is that great numbers of people still buy lesser quality as they did 15 years ago. Why would GM change?
Of course, I find it hard to believe they are making money on having to fix things again and again.

Heh heh heh....good post Dale....my wife was giving me grief because I did not buy the GM TB or Envoy, which I could have had at "GM employee pricing" since my company is a preferred supplier to GM....actually their "vendor of the year".

I have made exactly 3 trips to my Acura dealer in the past 13 months, all for scheduled maintenance (and one TSB) ......unlike the author of the GM TB article who seemed like he spent every other week there.

I certainly can't agree with you. I checked out a Trailblazer a few months ago at a dealer and the saleman told me that you can't even get climate control on that SUV. The Trailblazer isn't even in the same category as the MDX.

Pay attention people - Rob isn't saying anything that we don't already know - this is an oxymoron !!! There is no such thing as a 'perfectly working Trailblazer' . . . ;) :p :D

Oh come on now, it may have 'moments' when everything is working :D

Searching through some old posts I came across this and it reminded me to thank my lucky stars that my wife and I ended up getting an MDX. We were very close to purchasing (literally in the sales managers office) an 03 GMC Envoy XL before we decided to take a step back and reassess what we wanted. Through this process and some further research we ended up getting an O3 MDX.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Envoy but it just does not compare to the MDX in fit and finish, ride, safety, and other aspects IMHO. The thing is, the fully loaded Envoy we were looking at was 2WD but was only ~$1000 less then we paid for our MDX, and our X has a RES. Of course this does not take into account the 0% financing we could have gotten through GM but I still think we made the right decision. :4:

I had a 2002 Envoy and that's why I have a MDX now. The Envoy was nice but after the engine was replaced after 8000 miles and you tend to loose trust. When it came out of the shop at 22,000 miles with more engine problems that is when we traded it in. I haven't looked back since. :)

When I got my MDX I asked a similar question "Who would take either an Explorer or Trailblazer over an MDX?"

A harder question is the aove and replace MDX with Pilot.

I lease and because the residuals on the MDX are so high and with a 48 monhth 48,000 mile warrany, the MDX leases out for $50 to $75 per month less than a comparably equipped Explorer or Trailblazer.

I finally figured out the answer: There usually is a wait for an MDX. If you are willing to wait, I cannot understand getting the Detroit metal over the MDX.

Oh two other reasons: If you are pulling a horse trailer and most important parts are cheap and there are many dealers ready to install them!

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. About every review on the Bravada, Trailblazer, Envoy etc. are awful. Just look at the fit and finish on the outside and compare to a MDX.

The General has met their objective with this truck - low entry point SUV. Proof you get what you pay for. Wait until you go to sell and see what you'll get for it. Plus, lets see the condition of the truck after 120K miles. Junk.

I know this is by no means related, but I saw a Caddy XLR review the other day. It's basically a dressed-up Vette and will sell for $76k. $76k for a Caddy that's loaded with GM parts-bin components? The review said in summary save $30K and buy a vette.

Another GM homerun
