Any comments on the 2003 Element, I just noticed it today.
I got there by www.acuracanada.ca
Kind of different looking. |

Honda has done MANY things to make this UNATTRACTIVE to a great many people. From the pricing to the minimalist features, they went out of their way to take the Element out of the mainstream.
Personally, I do like SOME aspects of the vehicle. The washable interior is VERY desirable. Too much 'stuff' left off, though...
If it does well, I would think this would help Honda fund a different kind of 4WD/AWD for Acura. Maybe something with hybrid power for performance and economy. Lots of Honda people have quoted as saying pretty much that...
If it does not do well, it could be hard on even CR-V development, as there is some parts sharing. Sadly, if it does not do well it may be due to factors such as lack of wealth among recent college grads, shifts toward conservative styling/decisions in face of uncertain market, and unprecedented length of zero percent finance from domestics...
Give that is wider than the CR-V but narrower than the MDX I think both Vic & I might agree on it... |

Ooooh, I noticed this bread box some time ago. Since Honda is so fond of resurrecting old names and putting them on new vehicles (e.g. the "Pilot"), they should have borrowed one from Ford....

Honestly, no offense meant, but I'm sure that the opinions of the typical MDX owner probably don't amount to much of anything regarding the Element. Out of curiosity I've checked into a couple of forums that discuss this new vehicle and there is a great amount of interest out there. I also think it's a bit odd looking, but a couple of nieces and nephews of mine were talking about it one day and they all seemed to think it was pretty cool.

Hi Xyzzy:
___Not being an X owner yet, I may have a slightly different perspective but I probably have the same opinion as most of this forums membership. Except for the wheels, it looks like something designed in the Russian military design bureau or inside Avtovaz’s own (see below) … $16000 stripped may sell it to some recent college grads but the darn thing looks like a throwback to an earlier era and one long forgotten in automotive design and styling IMHO. Not to say there is not some great ideas that have come from past styling cues but this thing is a train wreck … The 03 Accord engine and its utility sound decent but why did they go off the deep end on the styling front? Maybe I am just getting old but the sleek curved appeal of today’s latest automobiles is still the answer for any number of reasons IMHO …

Bingo! Note that I also consider myself in the "I must be getting old" category when I see it, but then again I don't go for the lighted washer nozzles, huge chrome exhaust, lowered body, high spoiler, blinding chrome wheel look that many in the younger crowd find appealing either. Again, I'm using the info that I've seen from the younger crowd on the web and also from my own younger family members to guage the possible success of this vehicle, not the middle aged (not all here) 40k luxury SUV crowd. The way I look at it, if GM can sell the Aztek then Honda can surely sell this thing! :D
