I am considering going all synthetic using amsoil products.
I am not sure if the Amsoil synthetic for automatic transmissions or differential is a suitable replacement. The "motor oil bible" suggests that synthetics are superior. Also that the high eficiency air and oil filtration wil extend engine life.
Has anyone used Amsoil products? Which ones do I use? |

WHY???
If it is for efficency, there is no way the added cost of synthetics will be offset by fuel savings.
It is is for longevity, there is no way that mineral based lubes won't lgive you service until AT LEAST the end of the 100K miles (the longest factory availbale extended warranty)
There is NO WAY that you will get measureable performance gains.
Save your money...

The VTM fluid is unique as far as anyone can tell. No synthetic replacement.
Oil, why not? If you prefer.
I prefer Mobil 1 as it's well proven world wide, cheaper than Amsoil, and more readily available.
Transmission...no synthetic mfr. states it's 100% compatible with Honda's own ATF.
However, Honda says it's ok to use Dexron III in a pinch, but it may alter the shift quality, and should be drained and refilled with Honda's fluid as soon as possible. (They don't really say it will damage anything).
This last one sounds like a 'story'. But if you still have relatively low miles on your X I would stick with factory fluid, but maybe more frequent changes.
Quite a few on here using K&N filters. There has always been a controversy as to which is better, K&N or Amsoil. I prefer the K&N myself for ease of maintenance the nice fit in the airbox. |

| Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll stick to the Honda fluids with the exception of oil. For the cold climate I prefer using synthetics. I agree Mobil 1 is the cheaper choice.:7: :7: |
