| Anyone know what the Top Speed of an MDX is? I do not expect anyone to go find out but I'm just curious as I have not seen this mentioned in any literature. |

| I don't know either, but isn't that a bit like asking what the cargo capacity of a Porsche Turbo is? :) |
|
|
|
| Top speed is electronically limited to 118mph. |
|
|
|
| I guess a better question is What is the top speed you should go during the break-in period?? Or, What is the highest rpm one should go during break-in??? |
|

I hit an easy 120mph according to the dial on my initial drive from Dallas to Houston (200 miles on odo).

| On my way back from San Antonio to New Jersey, I got to race a Grand Cherokee. I easily got to 120mph and probably could've gone more but was a little too scared to try. I know my MDX was not limited to 118MPH. The MDX is faster than the Grand Cherokee. From 60-100 MPH we were pretty even. But when I got past 110 MPH I started to sprint away from the GC. I know I could've gone past 120 MPH. |

I think the Acura stated top speed for the MDX is due to the "T" speed rated Michelin's. T=118MPH. It's interesting to note on the Michelin website http://www.michelin.com/us/eng/tire...eplacement.html that there is also an 112MPH S Rated X-Terrain in the same size as the T rated ones standard on the MDX albeit with an minor increase (104 vs 103) in the load rating for the S-rated tire.
By reading the above posts it appears that the speed limiter if it exists all may not come in exactly at 118. I'm not sure about speed ratings for the stock Goodyears. |

| Here's a question just inviting a bunch of BS answers..........but does anyone actually have data on the X's top speed? I know the tires are "T" rated (118 mph) and suspect there may be a speed limiter programed into the engine control computer at that point.........but still curious. |

That might have something to do with the speed rating of the tires. My MDX isn't home right now, so I can't check. Does any one know if they are H or S rated? |

| I believe I hit a top speed of 120 mph at one time, but I didn't want to take my eye off the road. I thought the governor was at 125-130 mph. I always do 90-110 mph, I only held out for 120 mph once to see what it felt like. A bit scarey if you ask me, my wife 2000 Maxima se felt alot better at that speed it's a little different when lifted in an SUV. Another member once stated that the governor was a little higher than 119 mph. If I get the balls up again this weekend I'll try for a little over 120 mph. But I have to check out the vehicle in it's entirety before making the attempt. Hope you guys and gals don't read about me in the paper! |

| Oh boy. I have the opposite feelings. I had a 2000 Maxima before trading in for the X. I've cruised at 110 on the Maxima and this past trip of mine to delaware, I cruised around 90 on the X and touching 110 on a few stretches. I'd have to say I felt a lot more control with the X. |

The maxima with the 50 series tires on the SE, feels alot more stable than the MDX at the higher level. The maxima still pulls and want to go faster where the MDX get a little out of control over 110 mph. When I say out of control I don't mean that it's all over the road or gets airborne, it's just being so high at that speed if something should go wrong you feel like you going to roll and flip over where the maxima wouldn't. |

I'll double that, paul. In my '98 SE I made a couple of quick 135mphs and it felt as stable as in 80-90mphs zone. With MDX, I don't feel like pushing it over 100mph for a simple reason of NOT testing the gravity on a raised center. :14:
On a side note, about 3 years ago I drove rented Opel Omega 3.0 (see Caddy Catera) Station wagon on autobahn going at 260+km (the arrow was beyond the last digit on the speedometer). The car was pretty heavy for it's class, but felt very stable. The only side effect I noticed was the lift-off of my $alls.... :2: :jump3: |

The fastest I've ever gone in any car was 105 mph in a friend's TransAM about 30 years ago, and sure enough I got caught by the Texas Highway Patrol...it was an undercover car, saw two guys with cowboy hats behind me and thought they were just tailgating, so I kept on going till they turned on the siren and lights....they proceeded to scare the crap out of me with a of threats and hauled my little teenage butt off to court...
For some same strange reason I can't fathom, I've never been able to drive faster than 10 miles over the speed limit since then! So the fastest I've taken our X is 85, but my wife has hit 95 and didn't even know it (I had to point it out to her while I was drying the wet spot on my pants)
LOL |

I recently encountered a guy on the freeway on a late night who was tailgating me as I was going 85 mph on the freeway. It really
annoyed me as I thought I was going well beyond the speed limit already. I pushed it to 100 and decided to go into the middle lane as this fool in a Mercedes 350 SUV slowly passed me by. Im sure my X could have easily beat him but since I only have 1000 miles on my 2003 X and not a racer so I let him drive by. What really irked me was that instead of passing me on the middle lane he tailed me so close as to try to egg me on to a race. I was curious to know how fast some of you have pushed your X and if it had any stability problems ? |
|
|
| deltajetfixer |
I found a Car and Driver review dated 2000 that lists the MDX top speed as, "118mph governor limited". Vehicles aren't going to exceed (from the factory) the speed ratings of the tires.
Glad to hear you didn't race the guy/gal. Leave racing where it belongs: On The Track. |

Which lane were you in, the left or right? If you were in the left (passing) lane and saw him coming up behind you, you should have moved over. If you were in the right lane he should have moved over. But for some reason I beleive it was the former situation.
I guess that you've never driven in Europe, otherwise you wouldn't have seen this as a challenge for a race. This is why American drivers get such a bad reputation. |

If I am in the left lane, and see a too fast driver coming up in the center lane, I will pull off into the center lane. Not to block him, I would only do that if there is plenty of time and is clear for him to pass me on the left, which he should be doing anyway.
If there is no time to do that, I simply stay in the left lane, slow a bit and let him shoot by. I know he will cut me off from the right but I am prepared for it. |

| I agree with deltajetfixer. Racing on streets should be the least of your concern. Remember it takes a split second for anything disasterous to occur and it takes a life time to pay for it. |

| The X appears very stable at speed, but can not account for the errors of other drivers. |
|

| g_dog01 |
| To me, the X feels just as stable at 105 mph as it does at 50 mph - smooth as a baby's butt!! :4: And yes, the X is electronically governed to 118 mph (although, I haven't tried to exceed that!). |

1. Don't worry yourselves about other people. Just worry about the fact that YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN THE DAMN LEFT LANE UNLESS YOU ARE PASSING!!! PERIOD!!!!
2. I took my 2003 MDX to the limiter. Hit 120 and it stopped me from going faster, so yeah, there is the limiter at 118 or 119mph.
3. FWIW, the MDX was just as stable at 120 as it is at 70 or 90 or 100. Awesome. No nervousness at all. I went that fast in a BMW X5 4.4 couple years back, and that car felt a tad better, although it's not fair cuz that car had MUCH wider Z-rated tires on 19 inch rims. My 03 has the stock touring crap.
4. FYI, you wanna go fast in an SUV (besides the Cayenne Turbo): http://acuramdx.org/forums/showthre...&threadid=14710 |

| I have never pushed my 03 X beyond 100 (was very stable at 100), but I pushed a BMW X5 4.4 to a bit over 130 (about 132mph) last year in Utah - that thing was rock solid - even at 132/133 - it had more, but I didn't!! |

| i know it sounded not appropriate or even a bit against the law:2: but i just wanna to know what exactly is the top speed for X. my thought was that v6 with 191kw, it can run faster than what's shown on the speedo. i was once speeded up to 180km/h in NT( which there was no speed limit on national highway) but didn;t want to get higher. anyone know anything about it! many thanx! |

I thought it was somewhere around the mid 120s (MPH) (under ideal conditions). I am sure it's beginning to appear like a brick wall at those speeds with regards to wind resistance.
I have had my 02 nudge just above 100 momentarily and it seemed to get there with little effort. 03 and 04s are likely a bit faster, all else being the same except power. |

Whooo, doggies...
I've gotten up just a little over 100, too, and was impressed at how well she rides at that kind of speed. I don't usually drive that fast, but it's easy to do out in the middle of nowhere on the interstate without really knowing what you're doing...
Oh well. Don't think I'll get any faster than that.
I regret missing out on the chance to drive in MT when they didn't have a limit, I think that would have been fun (within limits, of course... ;) ) |

| Pauls MDX |
| I've had mine up to 120 mph and was very scared and didn't feel safe. I found the safe crusing speed to be 80-90 mph. Anything over that I feel as if I am going to roll over and over if a tire should blow. The center of gravity really makes a difference when above the 90 mph. |

The official Top Speed is 119 (Governed).
I have had mine up to 115, and it felt fine. I was surprised how quite and stable it was for an SUV. I know my opinion differs greatly from "Pauls MDX". But I was highly impressed. |

I was overally impressied but compared to a car/sedan, if felt very scary. I didn't want to take my eye off the road for even a second to look at my speedomoter. It was very smoooth for an SUV. When I've had other SUV's for a test drive the Acura was top in class for the high speed test. |

| I hear ya. I guess I wasn't fully comfortable with riding up so high at those speeds. It feels unnatural. But I can tell Acura actually did some worthwhile wind testing. |

TOP CERTIFIED SPEED FOR 2004 MDX = 127.8 MPH
My brother runs one of the US test tracks for Michelin Tire. On October 21, 2003 the 04 was certified at 127.8 MPH. And that ain't no BS! |

Man you guys have me wondering now. I was certain that it was governed at 119. Mostly they govern vehicles not on the car's ability, but what tires they put on it.
I had assumed the Michelins on my X were rated T for 118 MPH. But through some research I found they are only S rated....good for 112 MPH.
Be careful for those with stock tires going well beyond the speed rating of the tires for a long period of time. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, most people don't go that fast, and those who do, don't stay at those speeds for long. |

CORRECTION
Actually I think I was wrong about the Mchelin cross terrain tire on the MDX. I do believe they [I]are[I] rated at 118 MPH (T). They are also availible in (S), and I got confused. |

I seriously doubt that speed is real. I'd check with a GPS because speedometers are notoriously optimistic at the higher end (10 or 15 mph fast is not uncommon). 265 hp is simply not going to push a box that big and unaerodynamic through the air that fast. And remember that horsepower required for a given speed goes up by the cube of the speed...

| I noted while crusing in 5th gear at 60 MPH, that the engine was only reving at 1700 RPM. If the MDX redline is 6300 RPM, the mathematically extrapolated corresponding speed wound be 222 MPH. Anyone want to speculate on what the MDX's REAL top speed might actually be on a fllat straight road with no tail wind? |

I don't believe it will be able to develop enough power to get you much past 130. And it is not likely to still be in 5th approaching that speed. Ask the trooper if his Crown Vicky or Mustang HO 5.0 was in 5th when he caught up to you... :2: |

ALong this line of thought, I've always wanted to ask, is that an electronic governor??...Then what is that "lump" up from the floorboard & the "block" hanging down from the footpedal?? Are they there to stop the overall travel of the footpedal / accel. cable?? go look folks..they stop going any farther when they touch....
My '02 was up to 110 & was fine feeling wise, haven taken the '03 up that high yet...I think 90 is the fastest so far. |

You are supposed to move over to the right!
Did you even take a test to get your driving license? You might want to do some reading on traffic rules first!
This is actually quite a revelation since I always wondered what are those idiot thinking about when they hog the left lane while the right lane are empty :3:
