Last February we purchased a weekend get-a-way in upper Michigan at a fundraiser for the NFP organization my wife works for. We finally used it last weekend. When she picked up the key last Thursday from the guy who owned the summer home he told her there was a sports car up there and to feel free to use it. Well, when we got there the first thing I did was peak in the garage and said to my wife “do you know what’s in here”? He had shown her a picture but she didn’t have any idea. I announced it’s an old Porsche Speedster. Officially it is a 1957 356 Speedster. We did take it for a drive Saturday morning and I’m still grinning. Now that I know what it may be worth I probably would of left it in the garage.
Seeing as I posted this in comparisons……..
Interior room - MDX wins this one. There actually is a back seat in the Porsche with room for a small pet.
Climate control – Both are automatic. Porsche automatically sets itself to whatever Mother Nature is offering.
Power to Weight ratio – Might have to give the nod to the MDX but I bet it’s close.
Coolness factor – Do I really need to answer this!

That is a JAMES DEAN Porsche!
If that is the real thing it can worth $75,000.00!!! depending on original paint, interior and serial number! |

| I don't have many details but I'm pretty sure it is not a kit car from the conversation my wife had with the owner when she returned the house keys. The ody showed about 2300 miles. Don't know if that's 2300 or 102k. The interior and paint were in excellent condition and if original, this car has been keep in a cocoon. It did have modern radial tires on it. Porsche emblems were on it. I did read the other day that some of the 57's were built with the heater plumbing removed (for racing). This one had little doors down in the foot-well area that you slide open but nothing came out of them. It was 47 the morning we drove it and could have used some heat. The whole deal was pretty casual but some people are that way with their possesions. |

Had I know you have access to a Porsche Speedster, I would have had you lift the rear hood to look at the engine and verify the serial number.
I just found out that color as a Porsche original...auctioned at Sotheby's for $135,000.00!!! |

I didn't even look at the engine. I wanted too but couldn't figure out how to open the cover. There was a pull knob behind the driver's seat close to the rear deck that might have popped the lid but I didn't want to mess with anything.
If this opportunity presents itself at next years auction we are all over it.

Edited - The more I look at replica web sites and the fact we were told to just drive it I don't know. But anyway....this thing was fun to drive and it actually has me thinking........................ :D |

Just curious. You mentioned "upper Michigan." Curious if you meant Northern Lower Michigan. Wondered specifically where and if you enjoyed the location. Being in and from Michigan, looking for some opinions from 4iners.

| Could somebody tell me why in the world would someone who can obviously afford such an expensive house and sports car would have those horrid plastic patio chairs anywhere on the premises? Then again maybe cutting such corners gave them the ability to afford such beautiful things. |

Considering where the chairs are it is doubtful they are what is used for dining outdoors.
Who really gives a rat's behind why they are there. If it was my home, car and chairs, I could care less what people think. Sure looks like a neat place to live though!

Well, upon closer inspection of the picture I noticed the chairs are made of virgin vinyl and so they aren't all that cheap after all.:D |

There were a lot of those chairs around but I think they may have been left over from the wedding reception of their daughter that was held Labor Day weekend.
