Just had to tell this story after reading about all the squeeks, rattles, and other noises here.
While driving one day, I began to hear a high-pitched, sort of metallic, buzz eminating from the front passenger-side area. I'm only allowed to drive the X when I'm a good boy, so after a week or so, I heard it again. Now I'm really curious and swear I'll get that buzz.
But it came and went, which made it hard to pinpoint. After a while I realized it only happened at exactly 1700 RPM, which meant, if I paid close attention, I could hear the little buzzer as the car shifted up through the gears. Getting closer...
Holding the RPMs steady at 1700 on the highway, I could get a CONSTANT buzz to finally home in on. So now, as I'm driving down the road, I'm opening and closing windows and moon roofs, flapping mirrors in and out, slamming doors, fiddling with the change in the coin tray, lowering and twisting visors in all manner of unintended ways, and the buzz keeps coming. But I'm at work now so I had to stop my pathetic diagnostics.
After work, more shenanigans, same buzz. Getting a little crazy now...
It just so happened that the next day I was scheduled for some routine maintenance. At the dealership, the service manager said, "Ok, let's go for a drive." We get in and I say, "Let's try this first." I put 'er in Drive, mash the brake (hard) and rev 'er up to 1700. The X groans, and hunches up, the tach approaches the magic point, the service manager begins to hold on like he he's about get shot out of a cannon, and here comes that annoying BUZZZzzz. "Do you hear that?"
He looks around in the passenger seat, lowers the visor, looks around again, then looks up. Is he onto something? Sure enough, he pops the sunglass holder open and there sits my wife's metal-framed sunglasses, merrily singing their little tune!
Doh!
I take them out, turn them over, put them back in. Noise gone - mystery solved! Red-faced, I shut 'er down...
Score: service manager 1, moron owner 0.
Lesson learned: Beware of ventriloquistic sunglassses. |

| As soon as I started to read your post the same thing happened to me. The reason I belive it buzzes is because there is no padding in the lower portion (when opened) just where the lenses rest when closed. Gonna get some trusty velcro and use the loop side to pad that area. |

Excellent suggestion. I used velcro to pad below the ingnition switch to get rid of the little knocking sound of the Acura key fob/remote hitting the plastic. Worked like a charm. |

Good idea DaleB. I was going to use a piece of rubber, there and on the pillar where the seat beat buckel hits when retracted to avoid the nicks. |

DaleB,
I think you have the makings of the next "Why didn't I think of that?" invention. You can't call it "velcro". It's the "Key Muffler". Send royalties to me for naming rights! :2: :19:

Excellent idea on the pillar!! With ebony int. we can get away with a lot I believe there is a beige or tan velcro, isn't there? |
