Went to Best Buy and saw this cool item:
$399 for 20 gig MP3 player for the car.
hmm..... so i bought it and spent about 2 hours installing this baby. It rocks! 5,000 songs at the tip of my finger.
I used a cassette adapter to port the tunes to the factory bose system. Sounds good. I've already upgraded the speakers to the infinities and installed an infinity subwoofer.
I compared a cd version of a song to the MP3 version through a cassette adapter. There is a subtle difference however, being that cd will sound better. I'm very impressed with the cassette adapter setup. I didn't install the FM modulator as I know it will just suck. All in all, I'm very happy with the sound quality and where I mounted the display unit.
I installed the "brain" in the storage compartment and mounted the remote display on the A/C vent.
Reasons i went for this as opposed to the "portable" ones out there...i.e. IPOD, Nomad, etc..
1) Designed to be left inside the car.....cold and heat..etc...
2) Has a small remote display that can be mounted anywhere
3) comes with a wireless remote control
See pix below..enjoy!

Slick. I like the size of music selection you have once you've loaded your MP3 player. :29:
Doesn't it get hot in Dallas? With the display mounted over your AC vent, don't you get less cooling (on the other hand, your music is even cooler!)? :8: |

Nah,
The A/C is fine....If anything, less annoying cold wind blowing in my face. I prefer my cold air or heat to come from the floor or high in the dash anyway. The only thing that i'm worried about is someone smashing my window to steal it.
Peace. |

The "Brain" which is the main unit (hard - drive) is installed in the storage compartment in the trunk. You will need to run power via 12 volt and ground to the unit. Then run the signal wire to the cassette adapter or fm modulator whichever you choose. Then connect the remote display unit to the "Brain". All wires are hidden of course for a clean install. This is actually the tedious part of the install :2:
No more fumbling for CD's... |
