I'm expecting delivery of an 03 MDX Touring w/o Nav in early Nov. :D
Is there a kit that provides a standard VGA connection to the Navi screen which would allow it to be used as an external monitor for a laptop? If so, what is the resolution, 640x480?
I didn't want the Navigation system, but would like to use a PC/GPS mapping program occaisionally. |

First, I think once you see the capabilities of the Navi system you will wish there was some way to retrofit it to our laptop, not the other way around...
Second, Acura MUST have done some mods to the video feed to integrate the Rear View camera. It is my guess that it would be entirely feasible to tap into the line from the camera to the screen and feed a "normal" (NTSC) video image to the Navi screen. I'm sure that Acura had to wire in a switcher, keyed off the transmission's reverse indicator line, to patch in the camera over the Navi. I would guess that with the ETM manual there are schematics of both. You'd also need to add RCA jack(s) for composite or "component seperated" video or a S-Video connector. This could make the 03 MDX an even HOTTER platform for A/V customization...
EDIT --
HEY, did you SAY WITHOUT Navi??? I that case, you don't get no Navi screen... The big ol "displayish" looking thing that Acura calls a "Trip Computer" is really just a permantly etched backlight EL device, like a LCD watch... Sorry. |

Someone on the Odyclub was able to tap into the rear-view camera control unit to display video on the Navi screen.
As renov8r said, if you want anything on the front screen you need to get the Navi.
Maybe it's not too late to change your mind...;) |
