| Any interest in trying to put together a group buy on a '03 MDX? If there are enough numbers out there, we could try and do this geographically----i.e west coast, east coast, midwest, southeast etc. I live in Washington State and if there are 4 others on the west coast who want to buy an '03 I bet we could negotiate a favorable deal from some west coast dealer who would pocket 5 easy sales. Let me know what you think.....thx. |

Interesting idea but sounds like a really complex setup to me ... I got a headache just thinking about it!! Anyway, I wish you a lot of luck ... if you can pull it off, I will be really impressed!!
PS -- Welcome.
PSS -- When you get your new X, pls let me know so I can be envious. The 03s have some really nice adds/changes over the 01/02s. |

| Good luck to you Steve. I think your idea is something that alot of people don't have the balls to do. As long as the sale price for each vehicle is seperate.(of course you could pick up the tab and the others just write an IOU:) )Seriously way to go in a time when negotiating with a dealer with a high demand vehicle is nil. Why shouldn't people try it. I myself am very happy with my 02. Couldn't wait for the 03 touring/nav. It is a great vehicle and know you will be happy. |

| Good idea but I bet you will have a difficult time finding a dealer to bite on this. If the 2003 goes like the 2001/2002 no dealers will have inventory on their lots. They can sell all of the MDX's they can get their hands on without any discounts offered. |

Hi All:
___For those willing to travel to Northern AL, I know of at least one Acura dealership that is offering some discount on 03’s. I finalized an 03 TW w/ Quartz Premium pre-order for $1K under including destination and doc with a mid to late December delivery … From my discussion, receiving 1K off MSRP on an 03 X pre-order from them is unheard of but with my travel distance, they let one go. Bill Austin (my salesman) of Damson Acura is willing to deal on 03’s but I have no idea what they have in stock/arriving for November/December delivery except for the one I have coming in as of this writing.

That's correct. It is $46,000 out the door. As I stated in one of the reply from my original post, my salesman can get you the same deal. This is what I posted:
I just spoke with my salesman regarding my deal on the MDX. He said he will give everyone who wants one, the same deal he gave me. He'll have it in writing so there won't be any BS or supprises when you're ready to buy the car. His name is Arnie and his cell number is (619) 917-8543. He's very knowledgeable, personal, and most importanly I trust him enough to give him my business. Just tell Arnie you want the same deal as John the Pharmacist and he'll give you the deal. If you don't mind, could you post a reply if you actually call him. I'm just curious as to how many of you will take up on this deal. |

Yes, I did get it at MSRP, but after tax and everything, it was over $46,000. This was from my original post (I don't know how to use that function where you can copy the original post):
I was wondering if I'm getting a good deal or not . . . I placed a deposit for a 03 NBP/Ebony/Tour/Navi/RES which would have cost me $46, 244.59 ($42,000 MSRP + $3,297.24 sales tax - that really hurts, +$45 Doc + $318 lic fee + $76.35 luxury tax + $5 tire fee - only in Caliifornia . . . so lame) but the dealers going to sell it to me for $46,000 out the door. He's throwing in the cargo tray, wheel locks, moon roof visor, and 6 oil changes. Is this a pretty good deal? I really really really hate taxes. Oh yes...if anyone is interested in the same deal or similar, I can talk to my dealer for you....that is if you're willing to drive down to San Diego.
The $4,000 "mark up" is from the hefty tax I have to pay. The price is $46,000 out the door. |
|

the thing is i live in delaware, no tax ... and my local delaware dealer Castle Acura offers free oil and filter changes, with car wash, for the life of the warranty ...

| Mymdxiscoming - I'd be very careful with Castle. I too checked with them before purchasing. My stepdaughter goes to U. of Delaware. They started out with MSRP, but refused to not add the other 4k worth of options they normally equip their MDXs with. Lo-jack and many others.:( |

steventimm,
Soooo, what has happened with your idea? Did it prove feasible or too complicated? |
|
|
| steventimm |
| the idea still has some merit....one dealer down in georgia is apparently willing to go $1500 off msrp for a group buy of 8 or more, but coordinating is a hassle. to really make this work right, you need committed buyers....names, deposits, etc. etc. |
|
|
| srpbep |
Figured it would be tough. Heck, actually I figured it would be impossible.
Problem is that a buyer may sign up but then bail on you (changed their mind, found one locally, etc.). Sure seems like way too much work to get stuck in the middle.

that would be great....1500 off msrp.
tax implications....if you are out of state, you would not have to pay any georgia state sales tax. but you would have to pay your own state sales tax when you went to license in your home state. so at best, you would just delay the state salex tax, but not avoid it. keep me posted
thx

Hey Steve,
I just got an email from some guy name Ray from Atlanta saying he can give us a deal for a group by. I am going over the details right now with him but I told him we might have a high of a number as 8 orders if he can get us the right price. I was hoping for about 1500 under msrp for this. What do you think? Do you know of the tax implications for buying out of state?
Talk to you soon,

Would be very interested to know more about this "4k worth of options they normally equip their MDXs with", that Castle offers. I own a business about a mi. from them. Currently we own an '02 RL, and an '03 MDX, both purchased from them. Have dealt with them for a long time. I've never heard of the deal you describe. Either you were dealing with some "goofy" salesman, or I have been getting ripped off for a long time ???
Go talk to Sid Cooke, their lead salesman. He started selling cars there a few years back when he retired as a State Trooper. I have found him to be honest to a fault, and he goes out of his way to make sure all is as it should be. with the deal.
I also agree with the other posts about MSRP at 46k being a bit high. My '03 touring/RES barely hit 42k incl. tax. & dest. On the other hand, don't know what the taxes are in various States. Ours are lower than most I know, we have no sales tax in Delaware. One must keep in mind that no matter where you buy a car, you have to pay the tax in the state it is being licensed in.
Regards, ADS99 |

| I'm a new member to the forum, but am looking to buy an '03 Touring with NAV and DVD from either Acura of Boston or Acura of Peabody. I'm on another Acura lease until June, but if anybody is looking to try a group buy in the spring for the Boston area, let me know and I will coordinate it. I have purchased several cars from Acura of Boston and am pretty sure that I can get the sales rep to move a bit. |

Ray Williams was one of two salesmen at Baranco Acura that we dealt with when purchasing our MDX. Ken Wilson was the other salesman, and Ted Sykes was the F&I Manager. Ken was the first salesman we met when we came to look at the MDX. Ken wasn't working when we came back, so Ray helped us. Ray helped Ken with the paperwork when we purchased our X (Ken is new). We paid MSRP, but Ray met Tim's price for the towing package.
Our MDX was ready when they said it would be, and the towing package was installed on the day I requested it (got an '02 TL as a loaner). All in all, my experience with Baranco has been positive. If Ray really can work the deal, I hope everyone who wants an '03 can get one. The '03 is a great vehicle. BTW, Ken wrote us a very nice "Thank You", and called to check on us. Not one word from Ray. Ray? Hello, Ray??? |

What kind of deals are being offered in Florida? My 2000 Jeep Grand's lease will be up in late March, so I'm in no great hurry. Does ordering this far in advance give me any price advantage?
Thanks for any reply. |
|
|
| srpbep |
formerjeeper,
IMHO, ordering earlier may be a negative, not a positive. I live in LA which has been one of the tougher markets ... well things ARE CHANGING!!
** The economy has seen better days.
** The new auto market has seen better days.
** MDX availability is improved.
** MDX competition is increased.
Sooooooo ... we may start seeing change from a seller's market to a buyer's market ... A dealer who was getting MSRP+++ (and I mean big bucks) for Pilots 6 weeks ago is now dealing below MSRP ...
Think you're gonna see "normal pricing on the MDX" in the real near future. To me, normal = above invoice and below MSRP. The question is where in between ... |
|
|
| sports007girl |
| As far as deals on 2003 MDX's, it is and will continue to be a market driven thing. If a dealership has MDXs on the lot - they are going to be more willing to deal than if it is something a dealer has to order, you will more than likely pay MSRP. I am not sure how the market is going in other states, but in Austin, Texas, we have several premiums on the ground. On the other hand, we will be getting only 8 units in December (mostly NAV units) and all of them are sold because they were specifically ordered for someone. NAVs especially are going to be harder to get because of the new updates - and strong demand for them. While we all know the economy sucks, Acura is going to try to make money on whatever vehicles they can and right now, MDXs are it. Dealerships know they have to make up what they lose on TLs, CLs and RSXs by selling their MDXs at sticker. |

Hi All:
___I thought I would bring this one back from the dead with a bump and some additional info since I am looking for an X also. Here is a link to Baranco’s current X inventory although I do not believe it is real time. From this threads past posts, it appears as if there are a few members interested in this kind of buy with many more possibly to follow. Here are the possible participants although I do not know everyone’s current X ownership status or thoughts on purchasing an X in Georgia or not:

Jkim357, California to Atlanta is a long way to drive. I wonder what shipping an X to you would cost?
RUSS BECK, same note as directed towards Jkim357.
Formerjeeper, a $1500 discount is about the best available pre-order or picking up off the lot in the case of the X.

___I hope some of you are still interested (and possibly still reading) or maybe new members that have yet to make that final decision as to where the final purchase should be and would like to join …
___Steve, why don’t you contact Ray or Josh (the Internet manager) at Baranco and see if they are willing to do a group buy with 5 + X’s at $1500 under MSRP and no doc? Both are very familiar with AcuraMDX.org’s web site. I believe this may be a first in Internet History and great for all concerned if it were to actually bare fruit. I can see the AcuraMDX org front page now … Group buy turns into Group Buy meet with 10 new 03 X owners making there way down to Morrow, Georgia for a first ever MDX group buy. Fun was had by all with the get together including a sampling of that world renowned Georgia Peach Pie and all the Southern hospitality that goes along with it … Getting us all to pick up our X’s on the same day would be a stretch I am sure … Baranco will have to supply us with the pie in this case ;)
___As for the inventory codes and MSRP’s including destination, the following may help. I have no idea as to the interior colors since neither the VIN nor the Inventory list provides that information. I do know they have a TW w/ Quartz Touring and a TW w/ Saddle Premium on the lot ready to go as of last Thursday. I also believe they have a TW X w/ Chrome rims on the showroom floor but I have no idea as to its trim nor interior color … They did say they can remove the Chrome rims if need be. Here are those MSRP’s including destination:
182’s are Premiums - $36200
186’s are Tourings - $38800
187’s are Tourings w/ RES - $40300
188’s are Tourings w/ NAVI - $41000
189’s are Tourings w/ NAVI and RES - $42500
___Dealer invoice added nothing to the thread so I did not include it.

Hi Steventimm:
___Glad to hear you found a TW X and choice of trim in your locale. It sounds similar to what I am looking for. TW w/ Quartz – painted tailgate deflector – SS side steps – and all those other must have’s from Tim. Those Moda’s are going to look great. If you have not installed them just yet or seen them on an X prior, take a look at Harry’s TW X w/ 19” Moda R6’s and Scorpion’s. It looks fantastic! Well to me anyway. And please don’t forget the pic’s once it’s all said and done … It’s a good thing you don’t live in Illinois or I would have to come over and drool on your X’s bumper :)

Hi Gatebill:
___That is quite a long ways from Atlanta. Are you sure you want to travel that far for the Group Buy? I can understand it if you were to possibly vacation in the Mid-Atlantic for a period but 2000 + mile drive home is a quite a drive … In either case, you may want to consider possibly getting less of a deal but much closer to home from an Acura dealer in TX, NV, NM, or OR. I know of a dealer in Huntsville that will go $1100 under but even that is a long ways. There have been sporadic reports of good deals across TX over the past 2 years but I don’t know about now.
