I just ordered a 03 (tour/Nav), at MSRP, with side steps installed for just 200 dollars (don't ask me how we finally got to this "magical number"). I think its a good deal. He also agreed to put 10K on the credit card.

A couple of questions - would appreciate any help:

1. Functionality wise, are side steps equally useful, as compared to running boards? I liked the look of the side steps better, so went for it (but can still change it).

2. Am going to order floor mats, cargo cover, cargo net, and body side molding from TIM. Are the BSM useful in avoiding dings - are they easy to install?

Thanks. Am dreaming of my car already!!

BSM are really easy. Just use the template and the peel the tape and stick them on. Takes about 20 minutes. Just remember to clean the sheetmetal where you are sticking the BSM, so the tape will stick.

I personally went for the running boards as I thought they looked better then the sidesteps. The running boards are alittle bit more functional as they are alittle bit bigger and you can step on it alittle bit easier. It really is all up to you. Some people swear by the side steps and some the running boards. I suggest you go to the dealer and try to seem the attached to the MDX in person and make your judgement then. Enjoy your MDX.

Thanks, Kishino.

Do you find the cargo tray and cargo net useful? Which floor mats did you buy - the ones from Tim or something else?

It is good deal to get the side steps or running board install for $200. I wish my dealer could do that for me while I purchase the MDX.

Some people like side step better than running board. I think both are useful for getting in and out of MDX. But running maybe be more useful if you are going to wash your car by yourself. It has more place for you to step on to wash the roof.

I think the BSM is very useful if against to the sedan. If you park right next to a truck too close, you probably will get DING as well.

I have both Cargo TRAY and Cargo Net. Both of them are very USEFUL.

With cargo tray, I don't need to worry about what I put inside the cargo area. It won't put dirt on the cargo carpet.

With Cargo Net, I could put small item or grocery bag in it. Nothing could run around in the cargo area while you are making turns. :2:

I got the weathertech floormats. I chose these over the OEM as I had weathertechs before and they are awesome. Really nice and thick and the rubber is very durable. The OEM seems alittle bit flimsy to me. The cargo tray I got from Tim and they are very helpful, looks great too. Really keeps the cargo area clean of dirt and everything. Also great for putting them on the floor so you can lye down on them while you are installing the running boards and not get dirty. :D

BSM's are of limited effectiveness on any vehicle and even less so on the MDX because of shape of the car IMHO. The bottom part of the door that sticks out is very vulnerable. I see so many newer vehicles with much better BSM's than the MDX with dings. If you have a false sense of security and park in risky spaces because you believe you are protected by BSM's you will pay the price sooner or later. Park in the boonies with or without BSM's.

I would opt to not get the BSM, the BSM installed takes away from the clean look of the MDX IMHO.
