steering wheel controls 03 - Click HERE for Original Thread

I find it odd that the people that have received their 03 have not been posting any comments? I have a question about the steering controls. Will it go backwards and forwards in regard to the radio and CD tracks(Haven't even used the cassette so don't know what it does) I hope they upgraded that in the 03. Also, seeing as how you are not able to go back a track or 2 with the steering controls, what brainiac decide to put the track controls on the opposite side of the radio. I don't care about random and repeat but those buttons are readily available. I noticed in the pics from GABULLDOG that the same radio set up is being used in the touring non res. I am just a little upset cause just was looking at a friends MAXIMA and I couldn't believe the set up for the steering wheel controls. Of course I was silly enough to say "Can you go forwards and backwards through the radio presets and the cd tracks.?" He just looked at me funny and said "What yours doesn't?"

Agreed player, this is really a silly oversight that seems like an easy add. Why not make the button toggle to the left AND right, and make it forward/reverse? Definitely one of those simple design issues that frustrates me...

I have noticed all of things you mentioned and yes, it does suck that they couldn't come up with a better design. I do like the new colome control on the steering wheel though.

No, Acura did not improve the steering wheel controls for the radio/CD player in the '03. They still work just like yours - in one direction only. I also find myself accidentally bumping the volume and/or mode buttons and changing the settings. Very annoying! I guess I'll have to learn to control my hands.

yes but you can switch from radio to cd from the steering wheel which many other cars can not do.

i tried many things. tried holding to see if it will go back to the previous track, NOT. holding and pressing the volume control, NOT. Even worse, my friend's 03 4runner lights those steering wheel buttons, NOT for us.

Also asked him and got "What yours doesn't?":(

i owned a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee that got this much better too. One of my biggest complaints about my X. Although - at least they are there - some other manufacturers (including the aforementioned Toyota) have them missing (try finding these one any of the bigger Toyota utes - at least in '02)

The steering wheel controls are much improved from the my 01 X! They are ergonomically ondulated to fit the finger.

In addition, you have more controll of the system by being able to go between different audio inputs (tape, radio, cd, aux/dvd, etc.).

Yes, you can't go back! However, it is a step in the right direction.:1:

I'd prefer it of the Audio and Cruise buttons were backlit. I'm also use to (bmw style) the volume up/down be separate buttons vs a toggle switch.

After owning a car 95 Bonnie with steering wheel controls it became
a "had to have" option on my next car. While back lighting would be cool looking if you are looking down to use the buttons after a couple of weeks maybe you better see a doctor about that.
There are three buttons actual two one is a toggle and as soon as you strike it you realize it is the volume control "unless that wind noise is too loud" The other two scan between stations/programs
or device's(mode cd fm1,fm2...).
On the 95 Bonnie they had 6 buttons to control the radio.
On the X they use the other side of the steering wheel for cruise control and yes I think that could be removed and placed on the turn signal indicator and have three more functions.
How many of us drive by cruise control where we need that much power at the tip of your finger but then again after reading how much trouble it is to turn the cruise on by flipping a switch on the dash lower left hand side I guess it would be a problem for some.
For me I hope Acura decides to move the cruise switches to the dash or a stalk and leave the steering wheel for more important things like stereo options!

PS I use the cruise every single day so please let that rest.
