:4:  :4: The district sales mgr took this pic of my wife and I upon arrival of our new sandstone metallic X. Thought you all would like a look see of this new color. I erased my wife and I as this is about cars and not us. Sad to say I had to leave this baby at the dealership for them to complete the prep. I will update you after I get to drive er home and have some road time. I had not actually seen this color before and when my salesman called that it was in (wayyyyyy earlier than I anticipated) he was really excited about the color as it was sitting on his lot. It is tough to describe and changes sometimes dramatically with different lighting situations...it's so cool cauz it can have half a dozen hues pending on what angle you view at. It's sorta goldish without the yellow in the gold / and sorta with a little very light cocoa / sorta looks like wet or dry sand / and sorta taupish without the purplish tinge that taupe sometimes can have. We are thrilled and hugely excited with this color. Very classy color for the X. This was my second choice to MBP (which I still think IMHO is gonna be the killer color on this SUV over all the 03 colors), but I wouldn't see the MBP come in until late Dec. to late Feb. which wuz too long for us to wait and real happy with this color. Besides the sandstone won't show every speck of dust and dirt like the MBP. The wheels are WAY COOL :29: and much better than the Touring. I will send more pics after we get this baby home. This 03s are sooooooooo coooool, incredible value for the $$. Neillo Acura in Sacramento is the bomb! These guys are terrific. Best car buying experience
ever. This SUV is worth every penny, anxiety and long wait you have to experience to get. Our sale was their first 03 sold at the Neillo dealership. HIghly recommend them to everyone looking for an X. Will update later.

Thanks so much for the picture, waiting anixously for more as I'm debating on my color choice between Sandstone, MBP or Redrock.
See my thead.

How close is sandstone to the old mesa beige? Does it add more brilliance to overall look?
MK23666
Sadly ... I must say ... this is probably one pic I don't think I can justify saving in my collection. Now if you were to put you and the wife back in the shot and cover up that blank space then I will be pleased to recant. Then I can save both like a "before and after"
microman
Crete - this color does not have the heavy yellowish tone quality that the old Mesa Beige had. In bright and direct lighting it displays as a metallic gold fading to slightly darker of the same as the car panels curve. There is a slight undertone of soft brown with a hint of soft taupish without being taupe (actually I heartily dislike taupe). It's a color you gotta see to understand whats goin on here. My wife and I and the dealer guys all are excited with this color. BTW, the color chips and the displays on-line do not do this justice. The chips for Sandstone look very similar to last years Mesa B. and that is wrong. This color actually accentuates the lines of the MDX and enhances the dramatic appeal of the vehicle. At night or very low light with the metal flake it tends to gray out a bit rendering a different appeal. It is an ever changing color so its never boring or just a flat saturated color all over like the Mesa B. - that flatness of saturated color in cars really IS a bore (like the redrock). I will take more pics next week in bright light and dim and hopefully the pics will render what I have been attempting to describe. I'll post em for ya. Good luck with your choice Crete.

You know what...I REALLY like the wheels on that '03 MDX....NICE!
microman
Fireblade - These wheels are much better IMHO than the touring version. They are more aggressive looking and not a busy but still exhibiting a classy appeal. Two design qualities to mention and difficult to see are (1) the wide spokes hage a bevel on the sides that radiate outward to the perimeter of the radius (cool) and (2) along the circumferance of the wheel there are recessed notches (also very cool). The notches can barely be seen in my pic on the very bottom of the wheel next to my erased leg. I'll post more pics on this next week.;)

microman,

Nice looking MDX. Oh, and you and your wife need to get out in that California sun and get a tan:D

Very interesting color, almost copper in that light.
Let's see more of it! Next time stand behind the car not in front of it!

You can see in the pics of my Pilot how the sun changes the color of the sandstone finish. I should have saved the pics in a larger size, so they aren't terribly big, but you can still get the gist of the color. This might give some of you contemplating whether you like sandstone or not more of an idea.
My dealer said it is the same color that was used on '99 (I think that was the year) Odysseys.

Yes, good color. One of Acura's daring moves!
Now if they only had a few more 'daring' colors. And take a look sometime at the paint finish of a Highlander. I really think it's superior, less orange peel for one thing.

My dealer showed me a bulletin from Acura stating that the alocations for the MBP and the Sandstone COMBINED[/I] is to be no more than 15 % of each months orders. That is not a lot of cars for each delivery unless the dealership is huge .
:(
Also the quartz will not be available in the MBP or sand for now. No mention of exactly when they will be putting in the qz interior.
I am negotiating a way that my dealer can switch out the Goodyears with the Michs but I am getting huge resistence. They are using the "we are not tire dealers" line. That is inherently true, but I also believe that they should accommodate the ordering party, after all I am giving them my hard earned $$ for a vehicle outfitted to my taste and not what they want. :13: I haven't read too many positive reviews about the GYs and nothing but ravs w the Michs. I'm running on Ms now and luv em.I pick up my baby on Mon and gettin reeeeeel itchy.:2:

Goodyear vs. Michelin

Microman - I had what was supposedly top of the line Goodyear's on my 300M but had nothing but trouble. They (Chrysler) finally replaced them at 14k. I think I will be more comfortable with the Michelin tires on my soon to be new X. However, if they won't cooperate and switch the tires, perhaps a local tire dealer would be willing to do. My brother-in-law just recently did this with a new vehicle. They gave him credit for the Goodyear's and he only paid difference in upgrade of tires. On another note, if you have a Goodyear dealer in your area, tire rotations on Goodyear's are free for the life of the tires (although they don't willingly disclose this). Enjoy your new X. I am about 7-10 days away from delivery and it is really killing me.:4:

Talking about changing minds. I was so undecided--switching from Sage Brush Pearl to Havasu Blue. Now, I've changed my mind again to Sandstone after seeing it at the dealer's showroom this weekend. Sandstone wasn't even on any of my choices (havasu, sage, white) until I saw it in person. It looks so luxurious and very elegant. My mind is now set on Sandstone. Unfortunately, that will throw off my delivery date of 2nd week of December since I originally ordered a Havasu. Now the dealer need to send another order of my color or look at other dealers who may have it. I guess I'll just wait longer now :( .

I have a Sandstone Tour/Nav on order, and was unsure about it until I got some painted accessories from Hondaacura world.

I really love that color!

Now, if they'd only make the thing and send it to me!! 1 Week delayed and counting.....

I like the Sandstone color. Looks like a cross between Granite Green and Mesa Beige.

I've got a sandstone on order also, build date below. What was your build date? Are you sure about the delay, my dealer seems to think I'll be on time?
microman
Bald Eagle;
The pic INSIDE the showroom provides a false representation of the true color of the Sandstone. My pic OUTSIDE is pretty darn right on. There are NO green undertones what-so-ever! It is a classy softer goldish color. Doesn't really show gold until in direct light and the imbedded metallic brings it out. More subdued than the old gold from 01 and 02. I really need to get out my digi and take some pics on a weekend but the weather hasn't cooperated yet and been to busy.

BTW, my dealer mounted the Michelin's and they are terrific! in other posts I provide lots of detail as to the handling qualities of this X and I am convinced that the Ms help providing me with oh-so-secure road feel.

This SUV rocks;)

What did the dealer charge for the swap? From reading other threads about the difference in Michellins & Generals you are smart to make the switch.

Look forward to seeing your new pictures.

Tired of waiting, I called my local dealer today and told him two out of state dealers I contacted had an MDX in a color that was acceptable to me and he suddenly found a 2003 Sandstone Touring MDX hidden on the back lot. I pick it up tomorrow.

That would have pis#ed me off. I have this nagging feeling that dealers just don't have any incentive to get the vehicles to us ASAP. They'd probably be willing to sell it to another customer who hasn't shown the willingness to wait....

I wonder what he is going to say to the buyer that was supposed to get that Sandstone?:8:

Sounds like your dealer is playing a MDX version of "Musical Chairs".

I would laugh, but it hurts too much! Too much reality there!

My dealer charged $200 for the swap. Oddly, and with much thanx a short time after we picked up our X we were refunded the same amount. I will give the plug to Neillo in Sacramento. Maybe they knew something about the GYs that i suspected all along.
JackL
Looks like a great color. My wife wanted Sandstone but I thought it would look like MB and I did not like MB at all. We settled on SS/Quartz instead. Is the Sandstone similar to the Mercedes Smoked Silver?
