1 month wait (or less) - Click HERE for Original Thread

I did a little hunting and found a dealer that sells the MDX for MSRP...I put a deposit down today and my salesman said 98% chance that I'll have my SS Touring in March.

Vandergriff Acura, Arlington, TX
Call Patrick Bradley @ 817.299.2419

We'll see how this goes. This is by far the shortest wait quoted of the three deposits that I have down.

It'll require a some driving (I'm in Northern Cal)...but Colorado and Utah are on the way...so I'm taking my snowboard along for some adventures.

I have a couple of questions regarding purchasing out of state that Patrick is checking on for me...maybe someone on this board can help me out:

1) Will I still be able to place CA tax/registration costs on my financing if I'm purchasing the truck in TX?

2) What does the break-in period entail for the MDX? I'll be driving through the Rockies with a new truck...what precautions should I take?

Thanks!
Congrats RC98,
I had the same situation myself. I bought my baby from VA and registered it myself in MD. The dealer put all the taxes, tag, and title charges onto the bill of sale. Therefore, the dealer theoretically collected the money but they cut back a check to me for those items so I can do the title work myself. Make sure the dealer provide you with the certificate of origin (transferred to you, my forgot to so I had to overnight it back to them to do it), this is needed in order for you to do title work in your home state. You will require your bank to authorize the dealer to release the certificate of origin to you, they should have a standard form they can fax to the dealer.
As far as break-in period, my first 200 miles was done the first day driving my new baby home. As long as you avoid full throttle starts and abrupt braking, you'll be fine.
Good luck!
I guess there's a bunch of us bay area folks willing to do a little travelling to get a good deal for an MDX. 9 out of 10 bay area dealers want anywhere from 2K to 4K over MSRP OR 2K worth of dealer add ons. I'm on 3 different lists for a MDX, 1 in San Diego (3 to 4 months wait) and 2 up in Sacramento (6 to 9 months). But today I lucked out, I read a post by cotmc about several MDXs still unclaimed for March at Beaudry Acura in Tucson. Called them up and I now will be getting my GG Touring/Navi middle of next month. Should be getting the VIN by end of this month.
I did this 4 years ago to purchase an Expedition in Denver and bring it back to Indianapolis. I financed (leased) at my local credit union. Did all the paper work and down payment at home. Then they handed me a check to give to the dealer in Denver to take ownership. So all processing that was needed was done by the folks that know it best. The other positive out of this situation is that I took the option to turn the Expedition back in at the end of the lease. I didn’t have to drive back to Denver to do that since my lease was done here. I just turned it in to the credit union and am now the proud owner of a Black/Saddle base.

I bought my GG touring/nav at Bell Acura in Phoenix and drove it home to the SF Bay. (30 days from deposit to delivery, starting back at Thanksgiving).

Registration of your out-of-state MDX in California is straightforward, but not identical to a new car.

First, even though the vehicle is new, you must get it smog-checked before you can register it.

When you get to DMV, you'll first have the vehicle's VIN and EPA emissions certification validated by the same folks who do the on-road testing for the driver's license. (This is where the 50-state certification for the MDX is critical, because without it you could NOT register it in CA. The certification is a sticker under the hood).

When you register, you'll need to pay CA for the *difference* in sales tax between the state where you purchased it (assuming you paid sales tax there, which I did in Arizona) and the tax rate in CA. So, you get credit in CA for the tax paid elsehwere (Santa Clara county is about 0.5% greater than Phoenix, as I recall).

That's it!
Thanks for the registration tips. I'm wondering if AAA can handle this, hate waiting in line at the DMV.
I think the break-in is actually supposed to be 600 miles with no rapid acceleration and no abrupt stops.

The waits (at some dealers) do seem to be considerably shorter here in TX than in other parts of the world (like the bay area, where we used to live).

For some of you who are waiting, it's worthy of note that the sales manager at the dealer where we bought ours (in Beaumont, TX) said that he had shipped at least one MDX to an out-of-town buyer. I don't know what recourse you'd have (if there were cosmetic flaws, etc.) but I imagine with some careful negotiation I assume this might be a viable option for at least some of you. The wait here in TX is (fortunately!!!) substantially less than it would have been in the S.F. bay area, where we lived last.

Good luck to all of you--I think you'll find (as A4L loves to say) that it will be worth the wait.
It has to do with franchise rights to a particular area. Once a bay area dealer gets wind of a particular dealer in Texas shipping as opposed to selling and allowing the customer to pick it up, the bay area dealer will complain to corporate to stop the practice. However, there isn’t anything keeping you from going to Texas and shipping it yourself to prevent the cross country drive. Just depends on if you get to the dealer before the cooperate issue comes down.

I was on the wait list at both Sacto dealerships since Oct 7th. I turned down 2 cars from Lasher because they wanted $4k extra in forced options they claimed the factory required (ha!) and they stated they could easily get from Bay Area buyers. When asked they always claimed MSRP. Be sure you ask for the bottom line price.

Niello has gotten two in since Oct and I was bumped (I always assumed I was first on the list but who knows) both times for unknown reasons. I have a VIN know (had it for two weeks). Car left the factory on Feb 17th so maybe next weekend. Niello claims MSRP. Well see in the final analysis. That's a 6 month wait for those counting.

BTW: I am going to finance part of it with a Peoples Firs loan at 7.35% which was the best I could find on the net. Beats the 10% my credit union wants.
