"Necessary" accessories - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hello,

I was wondering what others felt were the "necessary" accessories that should be bought with the vehicle. I'm mainly interested in getting those things that are functional in nature (I think the base MDX looks fine) and that would be more difficult or impractical to install after delivery.

Thanks.
Hammer:

Don't get any accessories from the dealer unless they are practically giving it to you. Dealers usually inflate their prices. If you really need to accessorize your MDX, I would probably go with the side steps, all-season floor mats and rear mud guards. I personally like the side steps for the sporty flair and a way to clear snow for my boots. The mud flaps keep your rear end from getting dirty and all-season mats to keep your interior clean. Side steps are reasonably easy to install and comes with directions. You might have a friend help you though. There are some forums here on side step installs. Tim from http://www.hondacuraworld.com/main/ie.html has good prices on MDX accessories. Good Luck!
The "necessary" accessories can all be bought after you leave the dealership from a great place like http://www.hondacuraworld.com.

I think that running board, side steps, the wood meter panel, burlwood shift knob, etc. are more "optional" accessories for cosmetic purposes. Though obviously if you have kids or a short adult or someone who just needs the assistance the running boards or side steps can be quite helpful.

Necessary accessories probably start with the rear splash guards, which are pretty easy to install by yourself.

The cargo cover may be a necessity if you park in areas where it's important to cover what you have, and that is a piece of cake, no dealership intervention necessary.

Don't know about the wheel locks.

Some will say the front air deflector is a necessity because it helps keep some debris off the vehicle. That's not too hard to install oneself either.
The rear splash guards are a definite (I fail to understand why they aren't standard on all MDX's). Depending on the weather were you live, you might want the all weather floor mats, they are great for keeping the mud and snow off the carpet. (I'd take them out for the summer, unless you're going off road) As for the side steps or running boards, I don't see where they are necessary unless you are very short. My friend has them on his 4-Runner, and they get your pants legs dirty if you're not careful getting out of the car in bad weather (but I have long legs). I don't want them for that reason, although I really like the looks of the side steps. Most everything else is cosmetic. IMHO

Rear mud guard is a must, but the dealer ususally over charged such a so-easy-to-install-yourslef item. For example, my dealer try to charge me $129 + tax for a pair of rear mud guards which I can get from the HondaAcuraWorld.com for $45 and no tax. It is so easy to install because the mounting holes are already pre-drilled on your MDX. Other accessories are nice and will help to dress up your MDX but they are not essential. Hope this will help.
I agree. Mud flaps, in bad weather, is a must. I installed them myself. I put cheap mats from Costco in my MDX during the winter, or you can get the Acura ones.
