I'm getting an MDX early next month (or so I hope), and my plan is to have the local Honda dealer handle teh service on it (they're listed as servicing Acura cars too), because they're tons more convenient than the closest Acura dealer.
Anyone done this, and are there issues that should send me screaming away? |

| with great success at 5600 miles and 9200 miles (6 months and one year in each case). Had oil and VTM-4 fluid changes at first six month period and oil change at one year. No problems. Honda charged about 50% of what Acura would have charged plus I didn't have to travel 100 miles to have it done. Honda dealer had to call Acura dealer to get VTM-4 fluid at the time (Pilot was not yet on the market) but now it should not be a problem. Honda said they should be able to do warranty work but they would have to work out a deal where I would have to pay Honda and get reimbursed from Acura. Haven't had a single problem yet with my MDX so warranty work might not never be needed. |

No problem.
Honda dealers, with the release of the Pilot, now have the parts and experience to do service on the MDX.
They are not authorized (with the exception of getting special approval from Acura) to do warranty repairs however.
I just had my initial oil change at a Honda dealer and they charged me $19.95. I will be taking it back to this dealer for the VTM change in a month or so. Will go to a tire dealer for tire rotation.
When I was leaving the bay area after dropping my X off for the oil change I noticed 3 mechanics looking over my MDX like they had never seen one before. |

Just had the VTM fluid changed at a cost of $45.56. Had this done at a Honda dealer and although they said they knew how they failed to install new crush washers. They had no knowledge that Honda/Acura require these and had only done a few VTM fluid changes so far.
I specifically asked about these (washers) and was assured that they had them. When I questioned the lack of washers on the SO they got the mechanic and he said they were not needed. Probably not a big deal, had them note this on the service order, and I checked a few times and do not see any leaks.
Evidently the Pilots that this dealer has been servicing have not reached 7500 miles and they don't have much experience with the recommended service on them. |
