OK, I walked; Now, can I sell my spot on the list? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Tired of waiting and being treated like dirt I gave up on the MDX and went with another vehicle. The past 3 months with one car (a '00 Blazer) proved to my family that we did not need a second SUV. So, we got my wife the car she has always wanted - a 2001 Saab 9-3SE ($7k under unvoice by the way). She'd thrilled.

I was wondering if it would be possible to "sell" my spot on the waiting list? Hey, I have put 3+ months into this with lots of aggravation and it would be nice to get something for my efforts. Can I "assign" my deposit/purchase order to somebody else? Aren't people "auctioning" their spots on e-Bay? Or, do I take my deposit back and forget about it? I have a touring w/out Navi on order from a Metro-NYC dealership. It was due to arrive in January, and I am supposedly next on the list. They can keep their $300 mud flaps and $1,300 side steps.

Thanks to everyone on this board who provided sound advice and support over the past 3+ months. Best of luck to all of you and your MDX's. I can't say the same to Acura, or my dealer.
There is some goofball on Ebay selling a spot that is up to $4k. Personally, I think it's disgusting and can't believe anyone would be willing to "buy" such a thing, especially on the internet. How does someone that stupid have that much money? I cancelled and gave up my slot, purchased elsewhere and never thought twice about "selling" my spot.
Isn't this "scalping"?

Also, I can't believe that a dealer would allow such a thing? Maybe I'm completely wrong and just don't get it. This is America and I guess you can do whatever you want. I do think you deserve something for your wait but I'm not sure it means "sticking" someone else. Good luck with your Saab.
Thanks. I don't see it as "stickin" someone else. If someone chooses to pony up, fine. If not, that's fine too. I thought it was worth asking the question. I'll check out e-Bay.
My understanding of EBay is that auction winners often fall out (don't pay) So...whoever has a $4,000 bid over there could be a victim of someone playing around. You'd have to be nuts to pay that kind of money. In fact, there's probably people in this forum that might be willing to part with their MDX for an extra $4,000 and wait again. At that rate...you could start a business by putting yourself on every list...taking delivery and selling the MDX at a $4,000 over list. After about ten (quick) sales, you could own one free and clear...well make that 13 to satisfy Uncle S. If you rotated them fast enough...you wouldn't even need to use a line of credit. Of course, I think there's a 'dealer certification" issue in there somewhere.

There's scalpers everywhere.

Not everyone can own an MDX...but they can own a ton of accessories! :)

bona, please understand that this is only my opinion. I view it as scalping and would be surprised if the dealer would honor it.

Hey Danny!
I couldn't agree with you more. You just echoed my thoughts on this right on.
How ironic that, among all the posts complaining of Acura dealers gouging the consumer, we have consumers ready to do the same if given the chance. Apparently car dealers are not the only ones who have trouble understanding ethics when blinded by $$$$.
bona,

I am just curious as to what you do for a living. Would you share that with us?

Bona,
At our dealership the next person on the list with the same model and color moves into that position. Unless you buy the car you don't have any options as to who gets it. Get your deposit back and move on.
