A number of members have reported broken rear stabilizer/swaybar links. Due to the nature of the problem, you might want to check yours.

* There is no recall or TSB from Acura or NHTSA on this item. This is just a suggested safety check from fellow members *

A broken swaybar/stabilizer link may be preceded by a single bang or pop from the rear end when it breaks. The broken link may cause the following symptoms (among, possibly, others):

  • scrunching sound from rear

  • creaking from rear during turns

  • scrubbing sound from rear

  • crunching or popping sound going up and down driveways, especially diagnonally

  • push or understeer

One member's broken link punctured a tire, hence this announcement.

It would probably be a good idea to check your links (easy to do) to ensure you're not driving on broken ones (although this provides no assurance they won't break in the future). If your link is broken, you ideally should have your car towed (flatbed) to the dealer for repair.

Some members have continued to drive on the broken links, on the assumption that doing so should not present a major safety hazard (see possible symptoms, above). However, the possibility exists that the broken link could come into contact with other parts of the suspension, or other moving parts of the car (including wheels/tires).

Pictures of the general location of the link, of broken links, and of a possible method to secure it (should you need to drive) are located in this discussion thread.

YMMV and no warranties, assurances or guarantees are either expressed or implied. We're just a bunch of fellow owners, afterall.
