Hi every one,

What are pros and cons of having flip down monitor or head rest monitors install? After 2 months still can't decide which way to go.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated?

Flip-down

Pros:
- Cheaper, a decent 7 inch can be had for $250
- Cheaper, you only need one of them
- Less conspicuous if you live in the city

Cons:
- Blocks part of rear-view
- Not as cool
- Headliner has to be taken down for install
- More strain of the neck to watch

Hearest

Pros:
- Cool factor
- More natural viewing angle
- Doesn't block rear-view

Cons:
- More expensive, 7 inch is about $150 - $200 plus $150 a headrest for putting the screen in the headrest (about $300 - $350 each, comes out to about $600 - $700)
- More expensive, need two of them
- For 7 inch may need a different headrest
- Draws more attention, especially in cities

All,

As I understand 03 MDX has stock etertainments option. Does any one have MDX with this option, please post few pics here so we can see how stock systems look like. Again thanks for all your help.

I installed a flip-down. If I was doing it again, I'd prob just go for something like this. It does not block the rear view, and I could easier do 2 monitors behinds the headrests, one for each kid.

Someone scanned the 03 brochure, posted in General Discussions

Something to think about with headrest monitors. The more the front seat is reclined and/or moved back the less likely the rear seat passenger will be able to comfortably see the monitor.

Those swivel-style monitors are cool. Can you provide any more info on them(i.e., cost, size, resolution, etc)?
dbuono
I purchased and installed the vizualogic monitors about a month ago. I think they are excellent. The resolution is about 1040 x 260 and the quality of the headrest is excellent. The finish around the monitor looks very good and there is no visable problems with the install that I have heard about with other aftermarket headrest monitors. Also, a nice litte feature is that the headrest itself tilts. For the money and the avoidance of any installation problems, I really liked my decision to buy there monitors.

dbuono,

Can you post some pictures? I'm thinking about the same monitors (assuming you got the 7" ones) for the very same reasons you mentioned. How do the new headrests match the factory leather in color/texture/quality?
What did you use as a source and where did you install it in your X? Thanks in advance!

Why don't you guys buy your own screen for $150 - $200 and then send it to Ron at www.streeteffectz.com . It costs $150 for him to put the screen into the headrests. That's a total of around $600 - $700 for both screens, instead of the $1100-$1200 from vizualogic?

Hmmm, good point. 2 dumb questions...How long will Ron need the headrests? Does the install include wiring?

MDXtrous,

I thought of using the factory headrests, but they don't seem big enough to easily accommodate 7" monitors. I'll probably have to check with installers on that one.

I've talked to a few installers, and none of them think a 7" can be done with the factory headrest. Anybody know if it is possible?
ron@se
DEFINITELY can be done, BUT, we would do a raw module and just make a new cover. It would look totally factory...similar to this:

Ron,

Thanks for posting the pics! Are those 7" monitors in MDX headrests? The pictures I've seen at some other place showed the top of the monitor extending almost all the way across the factory headrest. These monitors in the picture appear to fit much better.

I'm not sure I understand what "doing a raw module" entails. Could you elaborate on it? I was also wondering if the wires could be hidden in the headrest's metal tubes.

This is what Ron wrote to me in an e-mail:

"Well, a non framed (7 inch) would fit, but that’s $250 per headrest since we have to make new

Covers. Also, we sell the myron and davis replacement with 7” widescreen for $950

Plus shipping for the PAIR"
