| IT doesnt matter if it is or isnt...you can run the Alpine or pioneer XM tuner through a blitzsafe adapter directly into the unit. |

| true, but if you do that would you have any control from the main stereo? I mean, could you skip stations from the steering wheel controls? |

| Hmm....now that's a good question. I THINK the blitz adapter allows for that, but let me call blitz and find out for sure. |

| Doe anyone actually have XM in a 2003 MDX, yet? How does it look? Are there exposed wires? Where does the unit go? Where does the antenna go? I wish they would install it at the factory. |

| For some reason I thought the New Radio was capable, but I didn't know exactly what that meant..... |

| I read on another thread that there may be a big problem with the xfm radio system....like they may go out of business. I didn't see the article but there appearently was one in the Wall Street Journal that indicated that the system may be in trouble. It might be a good time to sit in the weeds and wait! Anyone else have any information on this? |

Nothing but rumors and some earlier articles. There was a plan to make the two systems (Sirus and XM) compatible.
Like most 'hi-tech' they are suffering the slings and arrows of a down economy. Their investment is huge and sales have not exactly been stellar. |

I read an article this past week (can't remember where?) that XM Radio has asked some of its creditors to restructure their debt. They have met their 2002 year-end target of 200,000 subscribers. Their 2003 end of year target is 1 million customers, and if they reach that they begin to generate serious advertising revenues. XM Radio is backed by a couple big corporations including GM and Honda. The next 12-24 months are critical and will likely determine if the company survives.
I don't know anything about XM compatibility in the 2003 MDX but the key term to look for is "XM Ready". If the headunit is "XM Ready" then all that is necessary is installation of the XM tuner and antennae. In an XM Ready headunit all controls for XM are integrated into the headunit and there would be a scrolling feature to display station name, artist and song title. If the headunit is not XM Ready then you will need the XM tuner and antennae and a separate control unit, plus it is important to find out if that configuration would result in the CD quality sound that XM Radio produces.
My new headunit (Alpine 7998) was XM Ready so I took the plunge and added the tuner and antennae. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and diversity of programming and the sound quality is CD quality or better. Because of XM Radio I dropped my original plan to install a CD changer. |
