Hello All,
I drove my 5 days old MDX into the garage and broke the radio antenna! Took it to the dealer to get an estimate.
Since this thing breaks in the base and there is no fix for it except to replace the whole assembly. The cost for it is about $100 and labor is about 2-3 hours because it involves wirings(?) ; a total of about $400  .
Appreciate if you can give any experience and input. I notice this thing is very easy to break so It should not take the panel apart to replace it . :o
TIA |

see the above item on ebay, it expires in ten hours(it is now 130pm est). it is going for $30 at the moment, in a dutch auction with ten available, for the antenna and related parts. good luck to you! otherwise, i'd try tim at hondacuraworld.com, the man! he'll take good care of you on the parts.
good luck:cool: |

Thanks for the reply. By looking at the assembly on Ebay, I do not think that they need to take the panel apart to install it. It should not take more than 1 hour to do it.
Yes, I called Tim hondaacura world this AM and learned that they are close on Sat. Will try again on Monday. |

IMHO it would be wise to have a service manual available, so you are always prepared for the unexpected. |

It looks pretty easy to me. Any "wiring" looks like plugs (standard antenna type connection and a power connection).
The only difficulty may lie in getting the thing on and off, and ensuring a good seal. |

That's more involved than snapping a couple of electrical connectors together.
It can't hurt to have the manual, so later you don't get the manual and say, "Oh, that's why they said to do it like that!"
Just speaking from previous experience on other cars, I agree the antenna should not be a big job. |

OH, I didn't mean to say that a manual was not needed! More info is ALWAYS better! |

Thanks so much to all of your comment and help; especially vcolangelo, your repair manual page for the antenna really helps alot.
Since the thread connector piece (male) of the antenna broke and stayed in the antenna mount (female). All I have to do is to remove that piece out using just a regular drill. Buy just the antenna and screw it back in to the mount. Voila, the whole process would take about less than 1/2 hour vs 2-3 hours estimate from the dealer :3: . |

| Problem solved. Got the piece out in less than 5 minutes! Did not even need to use the drilll since It was pretty much loose already. Now just need to buy the antenna and put it in. Estimate cost will be less than $30 vs ~$400 from the dealer :3: |
