You say that it is bad that it has been 2 months since Acura has issued the recall, but how many of you have logged on to Ownerlink in the last two months??? This site was set up for you when you purchased your MDX and as soon as Acura releases any recalls or campains on your vehicle a message is left on your ownerlink website. You are also sent a paper letter but those do take time to reach you. I understand that we spent good money for this vehicle, but it is still mechanical and things do break. Acura's overall reputation for building quality vehicles is well known and is one of the reasons that each and every one of us purchased this vehicles over the rest. Whenever we buy a car we take the risk that the vehicle will fail at some point in time, that's why we are offered Extended warranties at the tie of purchase.
To pitch a fit at the dealer for this problem is unreasonable. Have you ever heard the phrase "you catch more flies with honey". The same goes here. They will do whatever they can to assist you, and will bend over backwards for you. Don't put the dealer against you by you attitude or you will only get the basic required solutions, never anything extra.
I am lucky, my MDX hasn't gone through these problems. But I also pay attention to Ownerlink and brought mine in to have the recall work performed prior to anything going wrong. So to say anything bad about Acura you must look to yourself first and say "Did I do everything I could do to prevent the problem?"
CHECK OWNERLINK ITS A GREAT SOURCE OF INFORMATION!!! |

I for one check Owners Link at least once a week and am still waiting to see that my X is part of the recall! If it wasn't for the heads-up on this board about the water pump recall that Tim posted at the end of August I may have been in a world of hurt as my X was one of the ones effected. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it without any question, however the recall letter didn't show up for another 3 weeks. Here's a snapshot of my owners link page:
Your 2002 Acura MDX is not included in the Ignition Recall. For more information, please see the Press Release and FAQ.
Your 2002 Acura MDX is not included in the Transmission Warranty Extension. For more information, please see the Press Release.
There are no current safety recalls for your 2002 Acura MDX.
If you experience problems or you have further questions, contact your dealer for assistance.

I think the Prep-Form available on the Owner's Link is very useful and quite comprehensive.
It is still important to TALK to your service manager and explain the problem, and have a technician see or hear it, etc. as applicable. But the Prep-Form should go in with your service request as a 'reminder'. It also helps you organize your thoughts.
The service record area is good too. I write down the receipt or service invoice number also in the comments section.
Then copy the records to a file. |

| Couldn't agree more, the service prep form is great. As far as service records, it would be even better if Acura maintained all service work they performed on a vehicle in a central database. Right now the service history is only available by the service department where the work was performed. This isn't ideal if you need work done while travelling and are away from your dealer of choice.....this same service info should be available by VIN on Owners Link too. Pretty amaizing in this day of age, that the records are not centrally stored....my company could help them with that ;) |
