I have been waiting for THE one SUV that makes sense to me and the MDX comes pretty close. From various forum I have learned the good and the bad about this SUV. So, my decision is a base model with navigation, because I think navigation is a good think to have but I don't care for the roof rack that comes with the touring package due to mltiple complaints about wind noise.

The problem is virtually NO dealers anywhere will order this combination. So I have no choise but to pay up $2000 over MSRP at a local dealer and wait for the car to be built - which, luckily, will be here in a few days now.

Not knowing the details would have allow me to look other areas/states for a better deal since I would have gone with the more popular trim levels. Darn it :-)
Just pull the roof rack off. It is an easiy installed accessory. Check past forum posts for instructions.

I suggest you order from a dealer in San Diego, avoid the $2k over MSRP, buy a one way ticket to SD from Oakland on Southwest $100 (usually less), enjoy a sunny weekend, and drive back up in 7 hours. Alot cheaper than $2k. Several dealers in the San Diego area are selling MDX's at MSRP. It'd almost be like getting the Touring Package for free, or getting the NAVI for free.

Me personally, I went through the Costco Rep. at Cush of San Diego, and was treated nicely, both from the salesperson and the service department. I've talked to the dealers in Carlsbad and Escondido, both have also said they'll sell at MSRP. I waited only 6 weeks, but then again, I ordered in late October of 2000, things may have changed. But, if you can't wait a few months, you may have to pay up.

Good Luck with your choice.
For some reason the 184; Premium w/nav, is the least ordered vehicle in our dealership also. Looks like this might be the case nationwide.

I have been waiting for a 184 (Base + Nav) for more than 3 months. Looks like this is the least ordered trim model. Ordered at Stevens Creek Acura in the Bay Area. I have now been told that it could take another 3 months.
I too have a Premium with Nav. I ordered mine 9/15. My dealer said I could have a Touring/Nav or Touring in October but would have to wait till January for a Premium/Nav since they already placed their first three months of orders and had no Premiums coming in. I decided to wait 'cause I didn't want that lousy Bose stereo (or pay $2600 extra). I'm also waiting for Yakima to come out with MDX compatible Q clips so I can put on their roof rack.
Just last month the very same dealers here in the Southern California area, who were asking over MSRP have now suddenly agreed to sell for MSRP with no "mandatory" options
Acura of Valencia-(they've been selling at MSRP right from the start...extremely good and ethical dealer- highly recommended) and Cerritos Acura are 2 that come to mind immediately
I too wanted the Touring Package, but did not care for the roof rack. My Mahogany w/ Nav&Touring is due 3/13 (or so - can't wait!). I've spoken with the dealer about removing it. He can easily switch it out with a Base. We are "negotiating" still as to what I will be compensated for their getting a free roof rack that they will charge someone buying a Base. If the compensation is not favorable then I will do it myself and keep it (could come in handy one day?). As posted above there has been fairly detailed discussions in the past about do-it-yourself roof rack installation.
