Thanks for allowing us to be a part of the Forum!!!
I'm Eric Tornwall the sales manager at David McDavid Acura in Plano, TX. We sold the 1st Acura in the Nation in March 1986. I have been with the organization for over 2 years, and recently became responsible for the New Car Department.
We are excited about participating in this Forum! We have several goals in mind:
Helping current owners get the most enjoyment out of their vehicles.
Providing a supporting dealer resource for purchase, service, body-shop and parts.
Keeping members up-to-date on other Acura products and specials.
We will be glad to offer our inventory status in order to assist those trying to purchase. We have a large allocation and generally have several MDXs available or in-transit. We are also planning to offer Group Purchases, so, wait and see.
Lastly, we are very interested in assisting owners with agressive pricing on Extended Service Contracts. Nothing like peace of mind.
Please Contact me with any questions:

We can Fed-Ex the paperwork. Pay with CC over the phone.
Email me a request for the X-Contracts. Maybe we can get a pre-group purchase going :D

Eric@McDavid,
Can you sell a contract to a California resident?
If so, I am interested. How about some teaser pricing on the following:
** A 7yr/75,000 warranty?
** A 7yr/100,000 warranty?
Looking forward to info ... either post or PM me ... OK? |

Welcome to the board Eric!:D
It is great to have someone from Acura participating here.
I'm certain that your input will be beneficial for those that post here.
Maybe we can even provide you with some information from time to time. It never ceases to amaze me all the information about the MDX that is available on this site.:7: |

That's correct (broad generalization)...I believe it's a licensing issue.

Fore those of us in the area, can you supply a contact name / phone for your service department? I would like to do some comparison shopping for the routine work e.g. 15K miles etc. Does your dealership provide a courtesy loaner for such work?
Thanks and glad to see you'r participation. |

I e-mailed you directly at "etornwall@mcdavid.com" and haven't received a response. I am looking for 7/100 Acura Care warranty information for with and without a deductable. I have an 03 touring nav. |
|
|

With all respect to Eric, experience has taught me this is a somewhat competitive commodity. And as owners we are free to search any and all dealers for extended warranty coverage from Acura.
I also respect that dealers can not advertise a 'sale' price for warranties. |

Tom-TX,
I have bought 4 Acuras since 1989 from David McDavid (my MDX is the most recent one) & the main reason is their excellent service dept. Mark & Bob are the 2 service mgrs that have been with McDavid since 1989 (or maybe before) and they really know their stuff. I would ask for one of them & then they can refer you to a service writer. Fone # is 972-964-6000. I have recently had Andrew Hill assist me - he is a very personable young man. If Mark or Bob ask who you want to help you, ask for Andrew. You can pm me & I'll give you my name. Mark knows me pretty well.
They do provide a courtesy loaner if the work will take over some period of time ( I think if it's over 2 hours, but not sure). I have had a loaner each time except for the oil change. The loaners are not MDXes though - usually Integra or a car thru a 3rd party (like enterprise).
Eric - I haven't met you & don't think I dealt with you in Oct '01 when I bought my MDX - but welcome to the forum. Please correct anything I may have not quoted properly here - I am basing this on my past experience. |

I too am interested in an 7/100k Extended Warranty quote. $0 and $50 deduct. Are there different levels besides the deduct that is available. Like what is covered . . .? My ford for example, besides having yr/mi. and deductible levels, it also covered different components depending on which plan was purchased. Any other yr/mi. packages available also? Thanks in advance for the info.:1zhelp: |

It's great to see a dealer participate in the forum and one of this stature and experience. It looks like some 7/100's are going to be changing hands. When I purchased my last car I added a warranty and since there was no listed pricing, I had the feeling the dealer was having his way with me. This will be a refreshing change.
Thanks for joining! |

But at least your dealer responded-- hint hint to you, Eric!!!! I have yet to hear anything from you, Eric, in spite of numerous postings here and also leaving my email address. Why get excited about it? You can contact any Acura dealer in the country for a quote if you are seriously interested. Usually you talk to the finance manager. That's what I have done on previous vehicles.
But if Eric can give us a great deal even better. :) |

Exactly my point, Dale. I know I can contact any Acura dealer, but Eric posted that he can perhaps come up with a mutually advantageous deal, he also said he had responded to inquiries, and I had been one inquiring. So, I'm more perhaps impatient than excited, sir. :o |

I did get a quote:
** It was more than I have been quoted from the dealer where I bought our X.
** About the same as the dealer where we get our X serviced.
This is still early in the game so I am not going to publish the price. My guess is the pricing will improve when he realizes how many extended warranties he will be able to sell by simply exchanging paperwork for a check. $100-$150 profit x a lot of sales for paperwork that can be done when "business is slow" could turn into a nice business if he wants it ... let's see where this goes. |
|
|

| If a good price can be worked out, I would be interested too. My X is a keeper, so a 7 year warranty would be very nice. |

The quote for a 7/100, no deductible is higher than the three local dealers I have talked with. I really had my hopes up. |

Thanks so much for your reply. I must say I too had not heard from Eric but his lack of a response seems to be inconsistent with your experiences at David McDavid.
Judging from the comments of others, it seems as if their pricing (for the warranty at least) may not be the best but I will check them out for the service.
All:
Just as a reference point, I paid $1,350 for 7yr 75k mile $0 ded. At Goodson back in Aug ’01. |

So far it seems as though there isn't much of a deal to be had on warranties from Eric.
Would be interested to see an email response to the group from Eric showing prices of warranties/deductables based on group purchase (0-49, 50-100, etc.)

First, I'd like to thank Eric for taking the time to email a quote to me for the 7/100,000 zero deductible warranty. Second, so far, I concur with mdx4us2, in that it doesn't seem like much of a deal to me so far from Eric. |

Personally, I am not in the market right now for a warranty, but will likely get one in the future.
But I think the correct approach would be to call around and POST the lowest price any of you can get.
The we can ask Eric if he can match or beat the price. Even if he is just slightly higher I would just as soon give him the business since he is here to help us out on the forum. |

Why would you want to do that? Tim's orders aren't subject to local sales tax or shipping (for most items). Add the fact that this is HIS site and an extremely informational front-end to his business of selling parts and I think it would be in bad taste and poor judgement to use his prices to get matching ones from a local.
From what I've read, the guy at McDavid isn't competitive with the warranty to what others are finding by placing a few phone calls. Considering these forums are like having a captive audience, I would expect his prices would be at the no-brainer, gotta get me one level but they aren't. I always go with the guy who gives me the best deal first. He wanted my business more than the guy who was willing to screw me the first time but work with me if I called him on it. That's just me and my .02. |

I believe these were among the most competitive prices on genuine Acura extended warranties (if bought w/in the first 24 months of ownership), though mdxxxx's is less:

Yes, the dealership is in the bay area, however, the deal was 'special' in that I bought the X, ect. with the assistance of an Acura regional 'rep' whose area incuded most of Northern California, and who happens to be a relative. |

If you are interested in having accessories installed, we can certainly help.
When it comes to Cargo Nets, etc, Tim will be hard to compete with, especially considering the tax advantage. |

I would certainly encourage everyone to shop for the best price on an extended warranty for any make of vehicle. However, I personally would never buy one that wasn't offered by the manufacturer. There are many third party warranties available, and many are very inexpensive compared to Acura Care, but you WILL GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! If you pay $36,000 to $42,000 for an MDX, why not protect that investment through Acura? If you can purchase Acura Care for $1,650.00, and a third party warranty for $1,400.00, is it really worth $250.00 to be told later that your "warranty" does not cover the $800.00 repair? Please, I love you guys, AND GALS, but don't cheat your MDX out of the best available warranty. Acura Care is the only way to go. No, I can't sell you one, but I would like you all to sleep better knowing that Acura will take care of your pride and joy.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. |

There's been lots of previous discussion on after-market warranties, and they've always been voted out.
In California, we could not get one if we wanted, and I guess that's ok too, if you are willing to sacrifice the consumer not having a choice. But that's another topic......... |

Anyone get the feeling that the only "dealers" we can count on are Tim and Jamie? No others that post have offered discounts (except Tim) and none have offered good information (except Tim AND Jamie!).
You would expect with a captive, targeted audience the other "supporting" dealers would be able to step up. |

Sometimes it's not easy, I can truly say that from what I do here. I've been putting off the Quebec CR-V club for 3 weeks while I'm waiting for re-negotiated rates for Canada shipments from UPS and FedEx. They want to buy en masse and I'm trying to get them a better rate, which just came through yesterday, finally!
I will ask that everyone please bear with me a bit during this Holiday season, many of you I'm sure are getting busy signal after busy signal as the calls flood in, and sometimes it takes me a couple of days to catch up on emails. Yesterday at Hondacuraworld we processed 57 orders for our own site alone, and about 15 from other sites that order through us. That's a huge number for two people! :)
I didn't even get to check in to the boards yesterday. Today's a catch up day, since I had a shot of corticosteroid in my left shoulder yesterday I'm pretty much immobile or in a lot of pain....my choice. But I'm here, and by the phone and computer, so I'm here if anyone needs me :4: |

:2: I posted here, just before Thanksgiving, about the merits of purchasing an Acura Care Extended Warranty. It seems that many of you may be interested, but can't seem to get a favorable price. I have talked to our finance department, and they have agreed to sell the Acura Care Extended Warranty to members of this site, for $1,685.00. This is a 7 year/100,000 mile ($0 deductible) warranty for the MDX. You can call Haley at 800-451-5571 if you are interested in purchasing the manufacturers extended warranty. You will not be offered this price unless you identify yourself as a member of this site, so please be nice and let her know when you call. After you talk to Haley, have her transfer you to me so that I can say "HI". It's nice to hear the voice of people you see on the site. I hope everyone's New Year has gotten off to a great start.
