Is it the stainless steel Manik or OEM?
Which one is more "out" of the body?
Thanks.

NONE! (You haven't been doing searches...) The Maniks are most intimidating to others parked next to you because they stick out more. But doors are just as susceptible to dings.

 daleb is correct, the maniks stick out more but most other suv's and minivans' doors are high and curved enough that they'lle definitely hit your x. and x's are notorious for showing dings.

I chose the maniks for my x because I like the way they look. I also think the oems are too close to the body and you are more likely to slip off of them while getting out.

You are most like to use them while washing the roof or getting out of the third row seat as you extend your leg to get out. The oems are so close that your foot may have a hard time finding the step, especially at night, and your heel could easily slip off, especially if its wet. when using them to get in the oems are so close that your foot consistently kicks the rocker panel.

Other threads suggest that the oems are sturdier but I think its because they have three brackets. But what people fail to mention is the oems have 3 brackets because they are made of aluminum and require a third bracket because they are more likely to suffer a stress fracture without it. The maniks are steel and will flex more without the inherent tendency to fracture the way aluminum does.

I ordered my SS maniks yesterday from gogrilleguards.com for $335 plus shipping. I pick up my MBP X wednesday. If I can get my hands on a digital camera can figure out how to post pictures, I'll post some asap.

In the meantime you might want to invest in some body side moldings ($110 from Tim). They are more likely to deter dings than steps. good luck, I hope this helps!
