I'm convinced DRL's are a significant saftey factor, but Acura doesn't offer them as original equipment. Is there a kit that even a klutz can install that will run the high or lows at reduced capacity?

You can click on the link in my sig for one alternative. It was the best/easiest I could find @ the time, after a significant amount of research. Dunno if anyone else has done one since, tho (if they have, they haven't posted info on it).

I have a reduced output DRL kit from JC Whitney (if you check it online, look under lighting equip), which will work on either low or highbeams. I decided not to install it because I want to go full power but I bought it nearly a year ago so I couldn't return it. I like the simple design and how you simply crimp on a few 3m tap connectors with a pair of pliers to the wires behind the headlights, plus a line to the battery, and wrap a sense wire around a spark plug wire. It would be very easy to both install and remove without much evidence of any modification. If you are interested, I can sell it to you for $15 shipped in new condition with original packaging & instructions (new is $25+shpg). PM me.

Foregoing the kit, I modified the fog switch with a relay to provide full power DRL using the foglights. DRL function is bypassed when the headlights are on, and the fog switch will then function as normal. I added a defeat switch in case I want to turn off DRL function completely. Let me know if you want the details on this $9 solution (relay+harness, additional $3 if you add an over-ride switch). You can do this to the headlights instead of the foglights, but it will permanently cause the navi or computer screen to stay dimmed during the day, then you have to manually change brightness controls each time it gets dark or bright outside, a real pain.

Let me know if you want the instructions or schematics for the DRL kit e-mailed to you.

That's a good deal TCMB is offering. Keep in mind there are no spark plug wires on the X; you'll have to get power detection elsewhere. Same problem w/my kit. The thread linked in my sig has the details -- ought to work for either kit.

I'd be interested in seeing the Radio Shack solution, too :) Mind shooting it to me: theworm@attbi.com

A key word in my first post was klutz. It's gotta really be simple for me or it's over my head. The Worm's instal is impressive, and thanks for the info, but it's too much for me. I'll check out CallmeBruce's offering instead. Thanks muchly.

I believe TCMB's JCWhitney install might be easier for you. My primary goal was no splicing (aka plug-n-play). Managed to do it (except for 1 wire - the one for the non-existent sparkplug wires) but not without some effort. The JCWhitney one will just be scotchloks (tap connectors) so you won't have to do the Frankenstein mods :)
