About a week and a half ago my CD Player (6 in-dash) started to act funny. It would play the CD, then pause for about 20-30 seconds, and begin playing again. At first I thought it was specific to one song, but then it started happening to other songs. I then tried another CD and the same thing happen. I forgot about it for that night and then the next day it did it again! I tried a number of other CD's and still the same thing. Since it was a weekend I couldn't bring it to Acura, so I figured I wouldn't use the CD Player and try again the next day. The next day rolls around and this time when I try to play a CD, it ejects the CD's! The player displays an error message of "Er-E0", none of which are listed in the Owner's Manual. Finally, it is Monday and I call Acura. Acura service tells me that I need to bring my MDX in for them to put it up on the lift for them to look at it because they will need to get the numbers off it to order to new one! :( Well, so I brought it in, they tried resetting it, but it still didn't work, so sure enough...they are ordering me a new one.

My MDX is only 8 months old and I already need a new CD Player. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with their MDX and what was done for you?

Thank you,

The 6-disc changers have been a source of problems. Although it's alot worse on the TL/CL, I've seen plenty od MDXs that needed a new head unit.

And I'm not sure what that dealer's procedure was, but there would be no need to put it on the lift to "get the numbers" or even pull it in the shop at all. The replcement radio units are ordered by the faceplate number. It's a four character number (i.e. 2TBU) right on the cassette door I believe.

Why this is the case where you are getting read errors because of the 8 bit converter and laser that is NOT on liquid dampers.

Over time...the laser and 8bit converter gets misalign and cannot read the CDs.

Of course Acura is NOT an audio specialist so they replace the WHOLE freakin unit. I have a friend that is an alpine certified technician so we just re align the laser and converter.

A permanent fix to this is to add a liquid gel damper on the converter and that ought to do it for the Alpine OEM CD changer head unit.
