I ordered the gold emblem kit for my new 2003 Black MDX. My partner says it is the most tacky accessory you can get.

Any opinions?
laborlitigator
Depends on which color it goes with. . . generally, it goes well with darker colors since it contrasts.
BaldEagle
I think it looks good with black.

I concur...:4: Although I once considered it, but declined... Did someone say "Rolex look" ? :D
frostyra
I agree -- tacky!
DaleB
I rarely see it on anything but black or white, but not too long ago saw a GG and a Redrock with gold emblems. It actually looked quite good on both colors, but considering you don't really get a 100% change out, and the wheels are still silver (and would look guady in gold, IMHO) it doesn't quite get it.
Silver & gold look good together on some jewelry, and some plumbing and electrical (lamp) fixtures, but on a car, yeah, kind of chintzy or over-done.
EXCALIBUR
ablatt,

TACKY! Does anyone expect us to believe that these accessories are really "gold"?:bonk:

EXCALIBUR
ablatt,

Maybe it's not too late for you to cancel that gold emblem kit. Try and get a refund or credit and buy some other Acura accessories.

I think it's rather understated on my Mahogany... not bling bling at all IMO.

You can see the kit in pics in my sig.

The first MDX I really got close to was a Mesa with the gold trim in Palm Springs, it really looked great (it also had side steps). It sold me on the combination that I'm waiting for now. I also agree that there are colors that it wouldn't look good on. Something I've been thinking about since ordering my parts from Tim last Monday; he mentioned that some folks are putting the gold center hub emblem from an RL over the existing center hub. I'm really wondering how it would look, for $30 or so I'm tempted to give it a try.

Well thanks to all for your input. The gold emblem has to go. I'm not going to be driving around town as an accused blinger.

LOL! ablatt, remember, ballin' and blingin', aren't necessarily 'bad'...It's more of a personal statement. If it's you, hey, then go for it.. If it's not you... It will be obvious..:2:

I guess I may be somewhere in between.. I don't, and wont get a platinum grille (teeth), however, a nice shinny Patek Phillippe, or Rolex with a few diamonds, I can go for...:D

you guys crack me up. Seriously though, I believe it has been documented that the Acura emblems have been a target of thieves and I think the gold emblems are just "inviting" someone to do "unnecessary" harm to your X.
EXCALIBUR
hockeyplayer,

Good point about Acura emblems being the target of thieves. Why be a baller and draw extra attention to thieves with the gold emblem kits?

Chizel my Izel!!! Come down to my hood where I push drugs for a living and yu aint gonna see any emblem on any car. If you gotta gold emblem Acura, you might see just see your car on four blocks, without the wheels (I'm a pharmacist !!!)

Just saw a gold emblem kit on a Silver TL and I agree with some of the previous posts on this thread---Does not look good on Silver.

I think it would clash w/the chrome door handles.

Hey, the gold package is the perfect complement to my powder blue polyester leisure suit and white shoes.

Hey ablatt,
You should get the gold emblem kit. I too own a Black MDX. I would never get the kit but the more black MDX's out there that have the better mine looks. Just kidding. It's all a matter of taste. Good luck with your decision. All the best you my fellow Black MDX'r

I have gold emblems on both my cars - the Black MDX & a white RX.
Here's a link to pics I took when first delivered in 10/2001

this link shows a better view - taken in July '02.

It's a personal preference thing :4:

I have seen a Black MDX in Agoura, CA with gold plated door handles... because it wasn't a dark gold it actually looked pretty good.

I just finished putting the gold emblem package on my X last night, along with the the gold center caps. I had the delaer do the gold grille when they had the bumper off to do the owing/cooler installation.
I was a bit concerned at first for much for the same reasons you have mentioned (ie: tacky...) however, it really sets off the new Sandstone color and brings a bit bit of a gold tint to the paint. It is a fair bit darker than the Mesa Beige. Even the gold lettering of
A C U R A in the large chrome tailgate handle looks ok. The only thing that I am not comfortable with now is the chrome door handles. They just don't blend in with the rest of the trim. Possibly I can have them redone in Sandstone? Or black? Anyway, had a fw comments from my neighbors already on the gold package and they think it looks very classy...I would agree IMHO. Sorry no pics yet, I'll do the rest of my accessories then post a few.
getrusty
i have it on my green mdx and I hate it. Its cheesy.
neide
I realize I'm weighing in late, but I really think the gold kit is a generational thing - seems like every time I see someone with the gold kit they are a bit, how do you say... older? Personally, I like a sleek, monochromatic or close to it look - that's the reason I got a black one in the first place.

Same here. . . I like chrome over gold anyday. . . plus, I think I'm in the 35 and under group

You "think" your in the 35 and under group? :D
New MDXer
I think it goes well with mahogany. The problem with the gold kit is it does't match the other exterior shiny pieces like the door handles. I believe that is what makes it tacky.
