Welp. Guys and Gals. I filed for BBB Autoline Arbitration. I kept having the ABS fail. First, Acura to this day has treated me like gold. I am not bashing Acura or their vehicles. I just got the unlucky lemon of the bunch.
I found out today that BBB is requiring Acura to repurchase the MDX. Still waiting for the final numbers to see if I agree, but it looks like I will no longer be an MDX owner .
Since I leased, I opted for the repurchase. It just makes more sense than a replacement. So I guess I'm out of the pack for now. :p
Haven't figured out what to get yet though! I only know it won't be a BMW, Lexus, or another MDX this time.
The preliminary report says I HAVE to remove all "aftermarket" or non-dealer installed items on the vehicle, so I'm not sure if that means the cargo tray, rear mud flaps, and wheel locks as they are all Acura OEM, but I installed them. One thing is for sure, I'll have Manik bars for sale shortly...
I'll keep you posted... |

How did the failure show itself? Simply a dash light or something worse?
How many times did Acura attempt to repair this but not succeed? |

IMO I'd say that if you installed them (not dealer), they didn't come as stock items, and removing them leaves no evidence/damage (holes, etc), then they are yours. If it were me I'd remove and sell them. |

| I agree. What you spend your hard earned money is yours. Good luck. |

Usually the manufacturer has to PAY you back what you paid for them. If I remove them and sell them I'll end up taking a loss. But no big deal in the grand sceme of things. I'm sure someone here will want my accessories.
The failure was a dash light, but also the brake pedal pulsates (my definition) the wife swears it is a grinding noise, plus the added benefit of skidding if you hit the brakes too hard...
Someone here had a 2003 that talked about the ALB module. They replaced it twice and had four attempts to fix it. |

| dakster ... What state do you live in? If you don't mind me asking, why did you "force the Lemon law issue"? Were you displeased with the MDX? |

Do you have to take them off, or not? I'm not just being a smart aleck, I'd really like to know. |

I live in Florida.
The second question is rather uncertain at this time. I have not received the final copy of what they are buying back and what I have to remove.
I do know that I HAVE to remove the MANIK Bars because they are not Acura.
Reason for pushing Lemon Law: I do not trust this particular vehicle any more. The ABS brakes go out without warning. I have a 23 month old to look out for. I don't believe that they can fix this vehicle and I am tired of the headache of taking it in for service and having them give me a Honda Civic as a loaner.
FYI, the Acura dealership to this date has treated me great and unlike RobSJ I have no hatred or scorn towards Acura. I jsut think I got the Lemon in bunch and I need to try another vehicle right now. |

| I feel bad for you, but I can't fault you for wanting something else. Better luck with your next vehicle. |

Thanks... I hope I will have better luck. I still have not decided what I want. I was in the same position before I looked at the MDX...
The MDX was first vehicle I looked at, liked and thought was worth the money they wanted for it... Maybe I'll just go back and drive my 1988 Ford Mustang for awhile... The wife has a 2001 Volvo and I have a company car to get to and from work, so the need for another car is not immediate. |

If you firmly believe it was the 'luck of the draw' (so to speak) then why would you "need to try another vehicle"? Which is it? All MDXs are cursed or is it just yours?
And why would you beleive the dealer has treated you like gold, when they are incompetent and cannot fix the brakes?!?
Cars are not items of 'faith' ....they either have design defects or random mfg defects, but they can be fixed and repaired.... this concept that they can't be trusted is curious....

Ard,
The dealer wanted to change parts that Acura Corp. would not allow them to. My "bad" experience had nothing to do with the dealer.
Second, the fear of something going wrong on another vehicle is worse than the fact that something may go wrong with it. And it is more my wife that will not trust it than I will. (Remember FEAR can also mean F.alse E.vidence A.ppearing R.eal) My wife went over to my grandmother's house to check on her and found her deceased. She will not go over to that house alone ever again. Even though there was no chance of finding anyone deceased there again, as no one lived there anymore...
I hope this explains my reasonings. |

My queries were more rhetorical.... your reasoning doesn't need to be defended here.
One question.. do you think that if you had escalated your problem to Acura corp (like got the District Service Rep) early that the lemon thing would have been avoided? I have a feeling that many times problems 'fester' between techline and the dealer, and Corp never understands that the situation may 'blow up'... once the dealer and Acura have screwed up there is little resourse (ie once the lemon threshold has been reached).
Have you looked at the XC90... I like the looks- haven't driven one. (Tired of seeing MDXs all the time...)
Good Luck

I think that it might have been avoided; however, I did email the motor vehicle defect notice and talk to a corp. representative when they still had time to fix the problem. I told him that the dealer wanted to replace XYZ and that techline would not allow it. He test drove the vehicle said it must be fixed and left it and that...
I looked at the XC-90 and like it, but there is at LEAST a 2 month wait. I am looking at the Cross Country... We do love our V70... |
