Had to replace left rear tire on 2003 MDX base
one week after getting it. Small serrated knife (on road)
went through the tire and flattened it.

Had local America's Tire store replace the tire ($150,
including free replacement for all 4 Goodyear Integrity).
However, they scratched the rim where they took out
the original "Acura" weight. There aso scratched it
on the spot where they put (hammer) the new third-party weight
(seen from hole on the weight clamp).
They scratched one of the spokes on the rim (gave me $75 as concession for sloppy work).

Question:

1. is there an official "Acura" tire weight per the manual?
My local Acura dealer said they do and will charge $45 for
mounting and balancing. I want to get a full-size spare from
HondaAcuraworld and don't want my rim to be scratched again.

2. Was it worth getting the free-replacement $12/tire from
America's Tire. Maybe I'll just get the replacement tire
if I pop one out and have it mounted at Acura.
$45 is kinda expensive though.

Appreciate you comments.

Other than that, we are happy with our 2003 Silver/Ebony MDX.

Sloppy is right! I can not remember any tire shop ever scratching a rim of my vehicles.

You could invest in a full size spare, and use that wheel for the spare.
$45 is ridiculous for an install and balance.

I would work with a more reliable tire shop. Maybe there is someone on the forum in your 'location' ?? that could recommend one.
I don't have a problem with the dealer doing rotations at times, if I don't want to bother myself, and I am in there for a routine service. But most of the time do it myself, so it gives me a chance to give the wheels a good cleaning and get more intimate with my MDX.....now, now...not that intimate! :3:

But when it comes to repairs, replacements, balancing, alignments, etc. I go to a specialty shop.

As far as I know, even the dealers don't use the "Acura" OE weights. I imagine it costs too much or they're not even an orderable part to get the factory OE weights. You know, the ones that have "HONDA" or simply an "H"on the smaller ones, embossed on them. They just use the same ones that any tire shop would use.

To hell with those rim weights though! I'd have tape weights put on. Really cleans up the appearance of the rims since there is no weight clamped on. The tape weights go on the inside of the rim. Some feel they're not as precise, but some manufacturers like BMW have been using them OE for years.

I know everything but the tires are included in the b2b warranty, but aren't the tires covered under a separate warranty from their manufacturer for road hazard based on thread depth? There should have been next to nothing loss on week old tires....

Read the warranty!

Many assume the warranty for tires with a new vehicle s the same as you get from Americas-Discount-BigO...etc

The warranty is SIMPLY a 'manufacturing defect' warranty...no road hazard, no mileage, no nothing other than if if fails due to an inherent internal defect they will prorate the replacement....

I found that out the hard way on my RL. Hit a curb when driving into the driveway (Dog jumped on me) and the tire sidewall broke. Cost $150 to replace.

I don't know about everyone else here, but if some shop just scratched a wheel of mine (that looked new when I brought it in)
I would be furious!1:mad: :14: :13:

Then I would DEMAND a new rim!!! (they can keep the old one they scratched, and maybe sell it back to me (if the price was right) for use as a spare.

The money that they gave you will be gone soon, (or already is) and you will have to look at that scratch until the day you sell the vehicle.

Remember:
"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.....!!"

How much do you think the next buyer of your X is going to want off the sales price when they see the scratch ? :(
