Hi everyone...I've got a problem with my 7 day-old X. I checked the other threads and no one seems to have mentioned this yet, so here goes:
For the most part, my Navi has been working BEAUTIFULLY, except for one thing that I noticed a couple of days ago: I was driving along, everything fine, when the screen "reset" itself and showed me driving on a completely different road (not near to where I was). Ever since it has been doing this off and on, meaning it shows me driving on roads that I'm not. And I know that it's wrong because it shows bread crumbs all over the screen and me driving through forests (this all happens in my hometown). Didn't find anything related to this problem in the manual. Anyone have any advice? It's gotten so I don't turn it on because I can't stand to watch me "driving" on roads I'm not! |

Hi Maui,
Next time this happens, look at the 3 dashes in the upper left corner of the navi screen. They show you the quality of the satellite signal. If they're green, it means you have a strong signal (usually 4 or more satellites). If they're green and you're not where they say you are, you probably need to recalibrate the GPS - given you have a 7 day old X (hey, that's what mine was 2 years ago!), I'd take it back to the dealer and make them do the calibration (and pamper you in the process)
If the lights are yellow, the signal is weak, and if you're driving, the gyroscopic part of the navi takes over. The result of this is you'll slowly drift off road (the navi's going on it's last best guess). This happened to me last week, and I ended up in a lake (on screen, not in the car).
If there's no signal, there will be no bars above the signal icon.
Lots of things can cause you to lose the signal, tunnels, tall buildings, sunspot weirdness - you may want to see if there's a pattern there.
Good luck! |

Glad you were still looking out the window rather than just IFR :) |

| ghost--Thanks for the help. I noticed the GPS symbol in the upper right corner, but never noticed the bars...will check tomorrow morning. Thanks again, I'll let you know if it improves. |

Yea, every once in a while I'll test out the Navi by driving using only the screen display. Lot's of people honk their horns when I do this, I like to think they're cheering me on...

Every so often my nav drifts off the road onto off ramps but what is great about the system is it will "smarten up" and get back on track. For myself it happens near major interchanges. Also is there a reason why you keep the breadcrumbs on all the time?? Just curious |

I will keep that in mind when I'm inching along on a highway. Jersey drivers are not forgiving!:twak: |

My problem's a little different then the original posters' problems. I use the breadcrumb feature quite often, especially in back mountain roads of NC, where a lot of my destination are in rural areas or national forest land, where the roads aren't in the Nav system.
My problem is that I can't clear the breadcrumbs and after several trips worth start piling up, it can get rather annoying a little confusing too.
I've followed the manual's exact instructions to clear bread crumb history and the dang dots won't go away. I''ve tried it several items to no avail.
Anybody else have this problem?? I haven't contacted the dealer about it yet, figuring I'd find the answer here. |

Make sure you're turning off/on the correct setting. I've seen people select the "Unverified Routing" on/off thinking it will clear the breadcrumbs but it won't. That's a completely different feature. You need to clear the off-road tracking. |

The "court of last resort" is always your dealer. Drive by and let him see if it is or is not working correctly. If your procedures is incorrect he/she can show you the correct one.

I haven't experienced the positioning problem, but I have had a few other odd problems with my 2005 navi.
Twice i've had the system freeze. Once I noticed while driving that the icon hadn't moved in several blocks. The other time I noticed it when I shifted into reverse and the back-up camera didn't engage. Upon looking at the navi screen, I realized it had frozen quite sometime before I tried to engage the back-up camera. The only way i've found to reset the system is to turn off the ignition and restart the MDX. Obviously, that wouldn't be very good if I were on a long roadtrip with limited places to stop along a freeway.
I've also had the system randomly restart a few times. Once in the midst of driving and using the navi for directions. Fortunately, it brought up the "continue current route" screen.
I plan to report both issues to the dealer on my next visit. But, has anybody else experienced similar issues? |

| In 10 months of use we've never had a single problem or lockup on our 2005 navi. And I have never experienced that with my '02 TL-S navi either, and that system is now 5 years old. |

try getting the NAVI security code and radio code from the dealer,
then un hook the battery for 30 seconds, then hook it back up,
when you enter the NAVI code , the screen will turn white with red instructions
you have to park the vehicle outside, away from buildings, with the vehicle running for up to 10 minutes while the truck acquires a signal.
this will initialize/setup your signal, and should restore an accurate reading.
if not , see dealer. |

I don't believe the signal strength icons are displayed on later MDX's. I've never seen anything like that on my '04.
However, if you depress and hold buttons 'Menu', 'Map', and 'Cancel' (left side of screen) you will be taken to series of diagnostic screens. One of them will display the current GPS satellite status. Normally you should be showing at least 4 or more satellites being received. |

THe newer Navi's have a cube-kindof-thing at the top left. If it's not there, you have no satellites in view. If its ther, you can see at least two satellites. If it turns into a three-dimension-cube-thingy, then you have enough satellites to get latitude, longitude, and altitude.
There is an option to reset your position more accurately. In SETUP, press MORE. THe option is called (if I recall) Vehicle options. If that's not it, explore.
My Navi is so precise, it shows me which side of a two lane road I'm driving on. I tried to fool it, by driving in the left lane. It showed me in the left lane! Then I was hit by the truck. |
