Here is the solution that I found for putting a good set of snows on an extra set of alloy wheels:
I bought the 16" Mille Miglia Spiders from the tire rack (www.tirerack.com) and a set of 235/70-16 Nokian Hakka 1's.
The tire diameter is very close (.3% off)
The problem is that there aren't any aftermarket 17" alloys that fit the MDX and the 235/65-17 tire size is an oddball.
Hope this helps!

Another tidbit, a tire size calculator:

| Did you put the new rims/tires on all 4 wheels? |
|

Yes. I did put them on all four corners. It's really important that you have the same tires on all four corners. It's a really bad idea, for example, to have snows on the front and all seasons on the rear. This is true of all vehicles, not just the MDX. If you get into a slide, the handling is all screwed up if you don't have the same tires.

Volvo XC90 also has 235/65-17 tires.
Anyone know of any other vehicle that takes this size?
The GMC Envoy is close, 245/65-17. |

| BMW X5 3.0 take 235/65/17 tire as well. But X5 uses Michelin MXV4 H-rated tire. |

I ordered the Dunlop Winter Sport's (235-65-17) from Tire Rack. I bought just the tires with the hope of landing some factory wheels for a decent price on Ebay. Well, I'm still getting outbid on wheels and winter is here.
I just had the Dunlops installed....and I love them. Haven't driven them in ice or snow yet but they are great in the rain. Also, they are quiet and corner well with good steering response.
Happy Holidays!!!!!! |

I was curious how your Dunlop Wintersports compare overall to the Integity's that came with your MDX . I picked up my White Premium 2003 in November and so far the Itegritys are doing allright.
Lots of people have told me the Wintersports are far superior to ANY other tire that they've had on their vehicles! The reason I'm asking is that I put such low mileage on my MDX (around 600 miles a month) I thought about driving on them year round? What do you think Opinions appreciated.

With this El Nino going on, I still haven't had the opportunity to test my Dunlops in the ice or snow but they continue to satisfy me in the rain. Come spring, I would prefer not to put the stock Goodyears back on. Right from the start I never liked them. Almost daily I drive across a metal grate bridge. The Integrity's (or lack of) would cause the MDX to wander side to side whereas the Dunlops track true on this bridge. It must be something in the tread design.
Anyway, I hope come spring to install a more performance oriented tire to enhace the already great handling of our MDX.
Hey!!!!!! That means I'll have a set of Integrity's with less than 1000 miles for sale. Hmmmmmm...anyone interested?!??!?! |

Curious as to the Dunlops performance on ice. Have an 03' MDX and looking for tires. I have Cooper Discovery M+S on my Pickup, which have the snowflake rating and have performed excellent in snow. and they make them in 235 65 17. Obviously not a dry road performer. I am looking for a good snow/ice tire, and I have heard the Dunlops are good on snow, but not on ice. I have had such good success with Bridestone Blizzaks over the last 8 years that I wish they would make a tire for this vehicle.

This is my first post to the board but have sure learned a lot from all the people on it already. I live in Ottawa, Canada and have a 2002 Silver MDX. After looking for options for snow tires (I was not impressed with the Michelins on it), I discovered that although Acura does not provide for winter rims, the Honda Pilot has steel rims for winter that have enough clearance for the MDX (the normal steel rims rub). They are 16", so I put 235-16-70 Goodyear Wrangler Ultragrips on it and they are like glue. The handling is not quite as good, but I am not looking for handling with these, just traction.
Thought I would let people know. The Pilot rims are silver with a much nicer look to them than a normal winter rim. You don't need to put covers on them and they look fine on the MDX.

Sorry for the delay...full MDX and wheel alone. The Goodyear tires are really amazing...when I had the all seasons on, I would accelerate hard on snow/ice (floor it in a straight line) and the back end would go out on me. With these, it just goes straight with all four wheels spinning. This is in VTM, not 4*4, so pretty good!
Enjoy! |

For those who missed some of the previous posts on this Nokian WR Snow tire.
I'd like to summarize by saying these are GREAT snow tires with excellent traction and handling. The tread is rated for 50,000 miles for speeds up to 140MPH. They are the identical tire size as the Michelins and GoodYears that come with the MDX (235/65R17).
I purchased these tires after extensive research. I then found a wholesale tire dealer Meadow Creek out of Colorado.

phone#800-222-7360 (out of Colorado)
Nokian WR 235/65-R17 rated V (140 MPH- 50,000 mile tread warranty)
$133.95/tire X 4= $535.80
+ S/H Fedex Ground $60.36
For a Total of: $596.16
I picked up Acura MDX OEM rims off of eBay
Driving in the Snow has been significantly enhanced with these tires from Finland.
Others on this forum seem to be equally enthralled. |
